This is a beautiful book that I gave to my pastor's wife for Christmas. It has bread recipes interspersed with pictures and spiritual reading. Highly recommend.

Convicting and Edifying
The work of Abigail Dodds is such a blessing to the Kingdom. Her voice is a welcome refreshment from the fluff that is commonly marketed to Christian women. She writes with a profound, robust theology while still being warm and edifying. Women who have been fed on pop theology may be taken aback by Dodds, because she is serious about sin--but in the same way that Jesus was serious about sin, and Paul, Peter, James, and John were. She doesn't coddle women and has no interest in patting your head and telling you you're worthy."It is a damnable "gospel" that tells women that Jesus's love for them--his life, death, and resurrection--is the proof of their worthiness. Heaven help us! It is the proof of his worthiness, not ours." (109-10)Yes, she will humble you, but she will build you up--in Christ, not in yourself. While sharing stories of her personal sin and intense trials, she addresses sins such as pride, hypocrisy, and the desire for flattery. She offers biblical guidance for women who are experiencing wilderness trials and spiritual dryness. Dodds returns time and time again to the promises of God, his steadfast love toward his children, and our assurance of his unerring providence for us. On every page she invites the reader into the joy and rest that we can only receive in the Lord. The book is visually beautiful. The photos are stunning and the paper quality is high. It lies flat for recipe access, and has a fabric bookmark. While I am not new to breakmaking, I am excited to try my hand at more of these recipes. The two I've made were hits for the whole family. Several of the recipes will force me out of my lazy rut of repeating simple, basic breads. I'm sure I'll need all the spiritual exhortation I can get when I try out her 3-day chocolate croissant recipe, because I'm sure God will be working on my patience in big ways."This is our God. We can bank our lives on the words that come from his mouth. We can endure the kneading and shaping, the pressing down and turning over, when we know it's coming directly from his loving hand." (141)
