Highly recommended
This is an excellent product, easy to set up and use, with great results. I had previously tried scanning old slides with an Ion “slides forever” device, but the quality was terrible because of low resolution. This Magnasonic is more expensive but there’s no contest when it comes to quality. The resulting images are clear and bright. You have to feed slides manually but it’s quick and easy - each slide pushes the previous one out the other side. Exposure or colour can be adjusted when (rarely) needed, though not in detail. The device has a very small internal memory so it’s advisable to buy some standard SD cards for bulk processing. Important note: it will only work with lower capacity cards - 2GB recommended (which will hold a few hundred images). Files can be transferred to computer via card reader or direct from the device. No software needed.

Effective slide coverter
Converted transparencies/slides over 60 years old into jpegs. Pretty easy to operate and able to adjust brightness and colour balance, viewing the slide on the screen. Once image is saved to USB - not included and required for the unit to function - the images can be transferred to a computer and further enhanced using an edit function. Also converted stills from a 16mm film from some 70 years ago. Not such good quality but more down to the original technology. Yet to try negatives. A very good piece of kit for the amateur and cheaper than sending them off to a company to do. Not very time consuming and actually fun to go through 30 years of family history.

Excellent viewer, easy to use
I bought this to look through some old slides that I found at my mum's house whilst clearing it out. I wanted an easy way to view a large bag of slides from the 1960s - 1980's. This is so easy to use. You put the slide in the adapterprovided, and then manually push the slide through the viewer with the next slide. It's easy to change the colour and brightness if you need to. Then just 1 press will capture the image onto the SD Card for you. It's only a few seconds per scan, and they are good quality. The picture above is from 1972, I did not edit any colour balance. I think the Magnasonic has produced a brilliant image. It is cheaper than other viewers out there, but it is certainly not lacking in quality. Again, as others have said, if your source image is faded or poor, then you won't get a brilliant scan, but otherwise I have absolutely no issues with it.

Good, but a few problems
I scanned over 170 colour films, with over 5000 shots, and overall I'm happy with the results, especially considering the price. There are a few problems:The 35mm film adapter had a rough ridge of plastic which made it very difficult to feed the film through smoothly. I used a large nail file to smooth this off and I've not had this problem since. The auto-exposure gets confused by very dark shots, such as fireworks at night time, and shots taken by candle light. As a result you cannot scan these images at all. A manual exposure mode would be a big improvement. The colour balance is generally good enough for snap-shots, but but its not prefect, and you may have to adjust this in a photo editor.

Easy to use,problematic adaptor.
Used this to transfer various size negatives to sd card. Easy to use. Only problem was feeding the negative through, negative kept catching on something at the end preventing the whole strip from feeding through.Annoying ,kept having to take adaptor out and resetting.

Good Results.
Good results and certainly speeds up conversion compared to other options.

Great wee gadget
Found this to be great fun turning negatives to JPEGs.Would advise also purchasing the longer negative holder for this lets you feed negatives quickly
