BernetteB05 Academy Sewing Machine

I'd never used or owned a Bernette before this machine. I am absolutely amazed at the quality, the stitch speeds (it is variable between slower for beginners and faster for more experienced sewists....turtle and rabbit on the speed selector). Threading the machine is so easy, and it just performs amazingly! The one minor downside, if you want to call it that, is that it is on the loud side, but that is to be expected with a motor powerful and fast enough for 1100 stitches per minute. If you're new to sewing and have the budget, definitely look at this machine, or its sister the B05 Crafter. You won't be disappointed!!

Tried several different times to get it to sew. There does not appear to be any specific product stores I can take it to for service in Northern Virginia, according to the website. So I am stuck with a non-working machine or paying for a repair at a general sewing repair business.

I bought this machine as a stop-gap because I had to leave my high-end Bernina machine behind when I moved from Europe to the US. I hope to ship it over next year. In the meantime, I want to keep sewing and quilting and so I bought the Bernette B05 Academy to use for the time being. I am very happy with it. It works perfectly well and comes with a nice range of accessories. It is solid and well-made and the motor seems powerful. I love the extension table. Two things were missing for me that I had to purchase separately: a dust cover and a 1/4 inch presser foot. I would highly recommend this machine for anyone who wants a basic mechanical machine at a reasonable price from a reputable manufacturer.UPDATEThe semi-atommatic needle threader is not great. I'd estimate that works about 25% of the time. I didn't knock a star off for the though because threading the needle manually not a big deal. This is a great little Lachine and I am very happy with it.

I dislike that the company doesn’t have quality control. Came not functioning properly. I thought the 'needle wouldn’t center' was a one off complaint. Wrong. I’ve sewn for 40+ years on many machines. I wanted to love this machine and expected more from Bernina/Bernette. Expected quality, didn’t want a cheap machine. My mistake, I won’t make it again.
