The media could not be loaded. "Alphabet" is our second book by Matthew Van Fleet - our first was HEADS (BOARD BOOK) which our daughter really enjoys. If you have never seen one of the Matthew Van Fleet books please see the video portion of the review. The books are completely interactive - they offer a variety of textures, colors, and moveable panels that offer hours of fun for little hands. Alphabet introduces you child to a variety of animals that start with the various letters of the alphabet. What I like about it is that it offers a little more variety than you would expect - for example for the letter "Z" most of us would expect "Zebra" but "Alphabet" uses the "Zorilla" - instead of a "Whale" you get a "Warthog" and things like that.Other notes- I would strongly suggest that you buy "Alphabet" or any Matthew Van Fleet book from an online retailer. These books do damaging rather easily when played with young hands. As a result, almost every copy I saw at a box store had damage,- A great gift for your child or for a niece or nephew that happens to have a birthday.- Comes with a wonderful "Alphabet" poster that has a variety of tabs that reveal an animal. See the video review for an example. The poster alone is nearly worth the price of the book.- Lots of texture, animation, tabs and silly situations for the animals.Final Verdict - Probably my new favorite Van Fleet book - very highly recommended.5 Stars

"T" is for terrific!
What a great book! You can learn about the alphabet as well as fun and friendly animals all in one place. The concept and pictures are very much like "Tails", another great book by Van Vleet, so if you were a fan of that book, you will like this one as well. The author rhymes his way through the alphabet with visual and tactile delights, while describing animals--some familiar and some slightly off the beaten path. Your child will love the friendly illustrations of alligators, dragonflies, elephants, and frogs, while you will scratch your head and wonder how you could have gone your while life and never heard of a quahog, uacaris, or xenops--all great new Scrabble words! The fact the he chose "zorillas" for the letter "Z" and not the standard "zebra" you would find in most children's books shows that he refuses to "dumb down" a book--instead challenging young children with new ideas. What I really like the most about this book is that it can "grow" with your child. Very young children will enjoy touching the different textures and making the kangaroos "jump". Older children will enjoy looking back through the book for the challenge of finding other alphabet word pictures that the author provides in the back of the book. You also get a 21-inch color poster included with the book that has pop-ups of the animals with corresponding letters that you can use to teach letters (or animals for that matter) to hang in an older child's room. A very worthy investment for your home library.

A Wonderful Book
All of his books are great, but this one is especially cute for kids and the addition of an alphabet poster keeps the learning on-going. It makes a great present for a young child.

Grandkids love this book.
I bought this book years ago for the 1st granddaughter at Costco. Over the years the pages got torn. When the last grand came along it was time for a new book. It’s fun to see the older ones playing with this book too! The 2 year old loves it as much as the 8 year old ! Great book.

The animal expressions are wonderful
A great book full of touchy feely sections, flaps, buttons and pulls. You may not know all of the animals but the guide in the back helps. My girl (2.5) loves making the warthog shake mud everywhere and make the kangaroos jump. I love the faces on the animal parents when their youngsters play rough with Daddy or squirt water at their mummy. I can empathise with them completely. My daughter has learned the names of many unusual creatures and fruits: unicorn beetle, zorilla, junco, quoll, ugli fruit, and skink are all part of her vocabulary now!Don't buy if you want to teach the alphabet though: there are much better purpose made books out there for that!

No boring zebras here!
Not my favourite Van Fleet, but still fab. I'm partial to Cat, Dog, and Moo, which are photographic, rather than illustrated, but the variety of animals in this one is exemplary. Not just your usual elephants and lions here, but all sorts of stuff that even I've never heard of (and I've seen every programme ever made by David Attenborough!). Finally someone who uses something else for the letter Z besides zebras!

A beautiful gift for any pre-scool child
I bought this book for my twin girls and was delighted with it. It is a quirky take on the usually boring and predictable alphabet: a is for apple etc. Instead it has a host of beautifully drawn, interesting and unusual animals; with pop up flaps and sensory pages. It also comes with a lovely poster of the alphabet to stick on your wall. I think it's such a brilliant book that I've bought it for virtually all my friends' toddler kids.

Lovely book
I love this book! We researched about alphabet books before choosing this one. Our little one has just turned one so already appreciates the different textures and moving parts in this well made book. And we hope that she will continue to enjoy it as she learns the alphabet too.

Shame about the letter x
Good range of colours, flaps and push pulls, interesting animals and a great poster. shame about the letter X which doesn't really provide the correct phoneme but everything was splendid.
