Great for cruise newbies and particularly for disabled travellers
I noted the various critiques from previous reviewers. Yes, its probable that information has been 'cut and pasted', and the writer has his foibles and favourites. But, it is still a great starter for newbies. In particular the long section on cruising for disabled and elderly travellers is excellent.I have a patient( I am a doctor) who is a young quadraplegic(wheelchair bound). He found the disabled section highly pertinent and helpful. It was 'spot on' as he was concerned. He wished he read the book prior to his recent cruise. I also enjoy Mr.Ward's sharp wit and ignore his slight snobbishness( he's English afterall!) So, a good starter for those embarking on a watery vacation.

The Go-To Guide for all things Cruise
With 12 new cruise ships in the last 2 years and 23 scheduled to launch over the next 3 years, it can be quite daunting keeping up with such a fast moving industry. The Berlitz cruise ship guide does an admirable job of keeping you informed of changes each year and is currently the only cruise ship guide covering all cruise lines updated on a yearly basis. Some reviewers have mentioned that some ship information never seems to get updated or some information seems to not make it into the guide in time. I think part of the problem is the publishers seem to be finalising the guide for print extremely far in advance. Many ships have had refits or gone through some sort of update in the last 18 months and this has been mostly represented in the book. This Guide is without a doubt the bible for all things related to cruise ships and I find myself constantly dipping into my copy on the shelf to either discover some new piece of knowledge or research information for my next cruise. I generally don't buy physical books any more; I have gone over to the digital side but with this particular guide I decided to experiment over the last couple editions, in 2013 I bought the app and last year purchased the digital version of the book but this year have decided to come back to the print version. The layout is so much better than the app or the digital version for this guide. So should you buy this or not?If you are planning your first cruise or trying to decide if a cruise is right for you then this book should be the first item on your list to buy. Cruises are like apples and oranges going on the wrong one could ruin your holiday and put you of cruising for the rest of your life. This guide does a very good job of pointing you in the right direction of which cruise lines are good for a particular type of traveller.I would not call myself a seasoned cruise traveller. I have only been cruising for a few years now and experienced 5 different cruise lines and 7 ships but I still find this guide invaluable in helping me prepare for my next holiday.Pros:Full of knowledge and well researched.Best choice for first time cruisers.Updated on a yearly basis.Cons:Rather bulky. Some updates for older ships fall through the cracks.Increase in adverts.
