Does it hold a phone?

It does not hold my phone. The inside pockets are not deep enough. But you could probably put the phone in the front outside pocket. I really like this case. It keeps all my travel information in one place with easy access.

will this hold six or seven passports ?

I don't have it with me right now, I believe it has 5 slots for passports. It's quite roomy and there's a zippered pouch that we put a birth certificate and an important letter. It could easily hold more. I love it!
