Gifted the compass to my 12 year old nephew and he loved it. Lugged it around the mountains for a week and I made sure to show him how to use it. I would suggest a short, easy to read, easy to understand guide be provided as youngsters may not have the benefit of a retired, old fart Boy Scout being around to explain on how to use the compass.

Bought this to replace another old Silva (similar design) from which the liquid had long since evaporated. I'm sure this is just as good. Eventually I will buy a compass that will outlive me. Hope this isn't the one.... Still, it's what I wanted and what I chose. I'm sure it'll be fine.

We promised our grandsons some activities in map reading and navigation. I hope they have as much fun with the activities as we are having designing them. This compass is nicely made and not a cheap plastic toy. In an age when everyone has a G P S, I still think the kids should learn to read maps. This knowledge has been invaluable in our out of country travels!

Works great! I like that it has a ruler on the sides so you can use it with a map while you're traveling.

I cannot imagine how this is possible, but East and West are orienting backwards. I confirmed it with two digital compasses and a different standard compass. It’s not a case of spinning the declination. Can’t give zero stars for a faulty orienting device, so I guess one will have to get the message across. Bummer.

My partner is a paramedic and he used this to get used to directions when driving the ambulance. Was working great and he got compliments on it. But It got wet ONCE and stopped working. I didn’t think a magnet could stop working, tbh, but it no longer points north. Very unfortunate.
