Not as accurate as a locking compass
The compass has no locking mechanism to hold the measurement. It will move out of spec. If too much downward pressure is applied, thus making it somewhat in accurate. The pro tractor was fine and worked as it should.

Great price and quality
Great price and quality for a Compass! I bought this for my husband for work. He is a Carpenter and asked for a Scribe. I asked him what is a Scribe? It’s an old fashion Compass that we used in school back in the day. When I searched by Scribe I found modern ones in Carpentry. The price was three times as much! But that was not what he wanted. He wanted an old school one. When I searched Amazon for a Compass The prices were much different. That’s when I found this one. It was exactly what he wanted. He was thrilled that I was able to find an “Old School Compass.” I was thrilled with the price! It arrived in two days. There was another seller with the exact same one that shipping was six weeks out. That’s why I chose this seller. I am very happy with the product. THANK YOU!!!

Good compass, but I prefer a ball-bearing design
This is a very good buy if you are looking for a basic compass. It is very solidly built and precise in drawing circles. It comes with three spare pencil leads, but these being the uncommonly thick 2mm variety, sharping and replacing them may be a problem. The lead can be substituted with ink pen refills, but they have to be exceptionally short. In any case, no ink pen refills are supplied with the package.Although this compass is quite decent, I personally would still prefer a ball-bearing design such as Ball Bearing Compass, Pencil Lock, 12"Diameter Capacity, Silver (SPR01491) Category: Compasses and Protractors , particularly since the price differential is small. Still, students of geometry should find this compass a solid tool that will serve them well for years.

Same item from my childhood
This item is the same as when I was a kid. It's hard to believe how hard it is to find and the price keeps going up unnecessarily. But I like style better than the other ones. Works great for sewing too because I can put my colored pencils in it and I can't do that with the other designs. Plus this is metal and not plastic. So I like it better.

These are going to be a nightmare
The moveable arm was off several of the protractors. Looking at them, I figured out how to put them back on but they continually fall off. This is with just having them in little pencil cases in my classroom before the students have ever even touched them. I should have simply gone with much less expensive clear plastic protractors.

Don't waste your money
In order to appropriately view and test this item you must destroy the packaging to try it. It is not worth any amount of money, I bought based on reviews, HOWEVER, it is cheap, very difficult to move the pencil and point. The grip for the pencil is useless, doesn't not hold the pencil at all. I would return but because the packaging is destroyed, I suspect I am not able. Don't waste your money, very disappointed.

It works
The lock on the pencil broke the first time I tried adjusting it. This was an add-on. I couldn't return it. (Edit: I fixed the lock, wrapped tape around the pencil making it fatter and the lock kept it in place just fine.)
