For reference, I'm a relative yoga beginner, but I've been taking 10-12 classes a week for the past 4 months ranging from vinyasa to Bikram hot. This mat has just the right amount of cushioning without being 'gushy'. I found that mats that were too thick were too hard to do balancing postures. I also prefer just the center line and the vertical lines. I had purchased two other mats with the diagonal lines and found the lines to be mentally distracting. Every posture became 'are my feet or hands lined up with something' and I should have been focused on breathing. The center line is all I need for correct placement. The other thing I like about this mat is that is stays put on the floor, and absolutely does not get slick once I start sweating in Bikram class. A couple of things to note: this mat is heavier than your average yoga mat, but it's much lighter than the much cheaper 'knock off' version. You will also need to unroll this mat to let it dry after a hot yoga class. (It dries within 3-4 hours). I still wish this mat were cheaper, but all in all, I'm very happy with this purchase. It's a little more expensive than I would normally spend on a mat, but if you have a regular hot practice it's well worth the extra money. I've always used a Lulu mat with a towel, but had issues with the towel bunching up or sliding around- no towel needed with this mat. Cleaning is quick and easy, so no issues there. It is a little heaver than other mats I own, but not a big deal.
