packaging
I liked the discs ,but it is packaged in a way that makes it difficult for me ,as in taking the discs in and out of the cover .I have gout in my thumb joints and it is not packaged well .Too complicated ,the way it is presented.

Great but incomplete
I purchased this as an upgrade from my original season by season DVD collection. Good overall but was a bit disappointed that the final episode was only the condensed US version rather than the two part original. The Season 7 DVD box offered both. Otherwise a great series and well worth watching.......again.

A well written show with great actors. I really enjoyed watching practically every episode.

One star review applies to packing and poor labelling of discs - helpful advice in the my review
This is the worst packing of any DVD box set I have purchased from Amazon (even worse than the cardboard used for the Sopranos set). Some discs are not labelled with which series they are part of, so I had to take them all out of the packing and sort them using the copyright year and catalogue number on each disc (each series has its own catalogue number on the disc). I also had to resort to Wikipedia to get the correct number of episodes per series to make sure none were missing. Once I had done this, I had to repack the discs in the correct order (i.e. not as supplied). Once I realised that the longer spindles hold 3 discs and the shorter ones hold 2, all eventually fitted back in the packing. Hopefully the quality of the discs themselves will reward my effort to watch them in the correct order.

You misguided fool...did you think THE WIRE or SOPRANOS were good?
I used to think like you....nothing could beat Gandolfini etc. in the Sopranos (amazing show if you haven't seen it). I won't go into the reasons why you have to see this show before you die, just accept that you must. Then I watched Dominic West et al in The Wire (incredible realism and fantastic story arcs), different to Sopranos (due the breadth of characters/story lines) but laser-focussed writing and unbelievable acting turned this 'cop show' into Shakespearian tragedy. Then came 'The Shield' (in my timeline at least!).I'm up to end of S5 and my heart is in my mouth - I've never cared about characters the same way (Chiklis is incredible but I think Goggins is even better if that's possible?)I can't sleep ....I'm thinking about the double/triple/quadruple crosses that are going on between the cops/IAD/gangs/politicians... incredibly intricate and nuanced storylines that reward loyal viewers who watch the whole way through from S1.Unbelievably good. Watch it.

PACKAGING NIGHTMARE
So many great reviews of The Shield I decided it was time I watched it. Another piece of box set heaven. But then ... solid packaging, but difficult to open, and discs packed on spindles in fours meant that several came spilling out. After that I share everything P.Nesshead writes in his/her review - two seasons have no season number on them, and Season 7 has no episode numbers (you'll have to load in the player to sort these out), the printed index inside the case has a couple of inaccuracies, and there's no index of episodes or their titles. So I've moved them to a dvd multi-case, finally in the right order, and ready to play (hoping no further problems). IF YOU'RE GIVING THIS BOX SET AS A GIFT, to someone who may want to play them immediately, be prepared for this (rather irritating) hiccup.

One of the greatest tv shows of all time.
Despite having a few scenes cut here and there, this is a long-awaited collection of an absolute masterpiece of television. Criminally underrated.
