I chose this particular scale because I consider myself to be chic when it comes to my accesories and furniture in my home. I like my items to look like they cost more than they are( I love a good deal!) the packaging the scale came in was great because there was no wiggle room for the scale to break being as though it's glass. and also was delivered in a timely fashion. The instructions and scale are pretty much self explanitory.I like that it is auto on and off because it saves your battery life.Another thing I like about the scale is that it is digital so there is no confusion as to your actual weight. Now having said that there are some issues that maybe a deal breaker for some people.#1 and most importantly if you have children there is no way you can keep the scale in plain sight even though they recomend not moving it because you may unbalance it,but because it is glass it is VERY fragile and is the type of house hold item your children would want to play with.Another issue I have is that you can not use it on any soft surfaces (i.e carpet)and by it being glass it is very cold to touch. As far as functionality you can set it to kg or lbs ddepending on where you live and your metric system. I find that you have to be very careful as to how you step on it because the actual lcd screen seems very sensitive,if you step on it wrong it gives you the appearance you would get if you were to press the screen on a calculator (the rainbow colors)which in my opinion means that if your not very careful the way you use it it wont last long at all. Also I would advise weighing yourself before you get in the shower because it will get VEEERRRYYYY slippery, and I wouldnt even recomend storing it in your bathroom because of the sensitivity of the scale even though it is water proof, I just think it is a sefety hazard. Finally whereever or how ever tou do dtore it make sure its on a flat even surface.Over all it is a nice scale and for the price you pay for it its worth it, to me it's discreet and is a nice addition to your bathroom if you are able to keep it in there,BUT you have to take care of it and treat it as if it costed more than what it does. Kuddos to Elite series scale, hopefully they will make a second model that is a little more practical. BUT IT LOOKS BEAUTIFUL!!!!

Do THIS to LOVE this!
After researching scales from expensive to cheap and reviews good and bad, I decided to give this scale a try... I was not disappointed. I've only had the unit about a week, but have given it a few tests and conclude that at under $20 and free shipping it is a great value and a fine scale. It is slightly "picky" in some ways, but I can live with that. The manual is available in pdf form from the myweigh web site /elite.htmlPluses1. Large, legible, backlighted readout2. Excellent both at accuracy and repeatability*3. Sleek design, compact (1ft x 1ft x 1in) and available in black or silver4. Batteries are cheap and readily available ie. Sony Lithium 3V Batteries Size CR2032 (Pack of 5) 5. Readout units quickly changed via a stepping switch on back (each push changes to the next level) to give pounds, stones and pounds, or kilograms6. Sturdy and lightweight with no moving parts.7. It has an "overload" and a "lo" battery condition indicator (see manual)8. It indicates a "valid" reading by showing the final weight, then "blinks" twice and read steady. If it doesn't do that you have not followed the procedure and the weight will be wrong.9. After a "valid" signal, it holds the reading for several seconds so if you have poor eyesight, you can get off and read it from closer.. even pick it up if necessary.10. GREAT value at under $20 including shipping..Minuses1. Uses "button" batteries rather than AA or AAA which would give better life [Edit: The batteries failed Jan '13 so they lasted about 15 months of rare usage.. less than 100 uses]2. Needs you to be still and balanced to give a good reading3. Slippery when wet (you can put anti-slip "tub stickers" on the stepping area to prevent this problem.. it won't affect the scale)4. Needs to be on a flat, firm surfaceWarnings:1. IMPORTANT.. the scale has a built in "proper reading complete" indication. Not insuring this is correct will guarantee that your readings are WRONG! You must stand steady until the scale "completes" by blinking twice and then a steady reading.. if you don't see this, there is a problem. If the reading just blacks out instead of blinking it is because you are either not steady or are standing off balance (such as on one side of the scale)2. Use on FLAT, EVEN, FIRM surface. Be sure it won't "wobble" when wiggled while sitting where you plan to use it. If you have a carpeted area, you might consider buying a single, flat 1x1ft tile from somewhere like Lowes and set the scale on it. That should solve that issue.3. Be SURE to "standardize" the scale before use.. it MUST be done for accurate readings. From the manual you're warned in essence to "place the scale on a flat surface where you intend to use it and then cycle the power one time by touching it til on and letting it turn off (should read 0.0)" and to do that anytime the unit is relocated or moved.4. And don't forget to pull out the plastic shipping tab from the battery holder or the scale won't work :)5. Don't leave anything on or leaning against the top or it will drain the batteries quickly.I feel these negatives are minor and managable. The truth is that proper weight readings does take a bit of care and knowing the procedure, but if you do that it's golden! Bottom line is this unit is a fine scale and a great value. I have read of people's problems with it, but my unit showed no sign of any of these issues. I expect many if not most result directly from not following the simple procedures specified in the manual.*Notes about "accuracy": No scale is absolutely accurate, and of course just because a readout is to the nearest decimal doesn't mean it is accurate or repeatable to that level. This scale seems to be both repeatable and accurate to about a half pound in my weight range. The low end seems ok as well. It certainly isn't intended to compete with say a postage scale, but as long as you're weighing items of substance (such as people) you should get great performance. I did not check to see if wide ranges in temperature affects the readings.. it likely does to some degree. I didn't do enough checking on this issue to see how significant it is. Proper function requires that it be left in a given location where you use it rather than moving it around between readings, otherwise you must re-standardize.If I learn more, I will update.Update 12/31/12 .. Just an observation.. I keep this in a room where the heat is normally not on.. consequently it can get quite cold (40F ish) and the battery is too weak to operate when it's that cold.. I have to move it to a warmer place and it works fine. This is not a fault of the unit Sony Lithium 3V Batteries Size CR2032 (Pack of 5)

A good scale with nice features that is a bit oversensitive...
This is a good scale but its not without its problems. The display is great, easy to read and can display either kg or lbs via a little button on the back near the batteries. You can step on it and it will instantly start calculating the weight, without having to pause and wait for zeros. While this seems a nice feature, it causes the scale to be VERY sensitive to where the reading flies up and down uncontrollably unless you're perfectly still. If you're very still, (and I mean dead still) it will soon blink and give you a solid reading. I have just found it kind of difficult to keep it from bouncing up and down while seeking an accurate weight reading though. Its not a deal breaker, but is annoying and that's why I removed a full star. Some on this site have complained about the battery life, but I have not had that experience. My first set of lithium batteries out of the box lasted well over a year! I was using it on a fairly regular basis, but some of these people with battery issues must be standing on this thing for hours at a time, because I just don't see that happening unless its faulty somehow. Overall this is a solid scale with good design, an easy to read display and basic but necessary features. If you can find a good deal on it, its worth the cost of entry. Just be ready to not move an inch on it while trying to get your current weight.

Pretty accurate. Only faulty is that when you place it on the ground the first time from a different location, the first reading is about 3 pounds higher. But the second try forward it reads it correctly. Those of you who are complaining that this scale is reading off like 5 pounds every time you weight, you need to remember that you need to have a designated area (the same exact location) where you place this thing. This machine has 4 tiny little nubble's on the bottom around each corner. And those little nibble's are the one's that actually takes the pressure from your weight. So if you keep on changing locations to locations when you're taking the weight, those little nibble's will be placed at a slightly different angle, thus resulting in a little off scale measurement. Of course I know this because I've tested this machine and was analyzing for like 30 mins when I first got it. But when you do get this, make sure you have a location that has the most flat surface, and you take the weight at the same exact location from now on. Then it should be fine. Other than that it's good. This machine actually been tested by the producers or whoever checks the item before it get's shipped off. It's actually even signed by some Chinese maker for testing if it worked or not. So most likely the machine won't be a screwed up one. I'm only giving a 4 because if I were to give a 5 for a product, it would have to have no faulty. But this does have one, like I said in the beginning, which is no biggy but still, it's not perfect. But then again the price is really good for it. It's really a good buy. I got it used for 17.99.

excellent scale
I just got this scale to replace an older digital scale that broke, and I'm very impressed. To weigh yourself, you step on the scale, wait about 3-4 seconds for the scale to stabilize, and look at the reading. The weight is easy to read -- large numerals with a backlight. The only drawback of the backlight is that it will increase battery usage. You have a choice of units -- pounds, kilograms, or stones. The scale itself is very sleek and low profile. It's 11.8 inches (width) x 11.7 inches. Some scales (both digital and analog) make a clunking sound as you step on, but this is totally silent.Like most digital scales, it has to be placed on a hard surface such as tile or wood. Some digital scales have a "fake repeatability." That is, if you weigh yourself, and then hold a small weight and step on again, it gives exactly the same value. This scale doesn't have this undesirable feature. If you hold a small weight, it gives an honest result.I measured the variability of nine readings. The range (max minus min) was 0.4 pounds, and the standard deviation was 0.12 pounds. This is excellent, and much better than my previous scale.I think that the absolute reading is very close to correct, but I haven't had a chance yet to compare this scale to the one at my doctor's office. The instructions warn that the glass surface is slippery when wet. It's not a scale you want to use after stepping out of the shower or bath.Update January 2011:After 18 months (and one battery change), it's still working perfectly, but I want to add one more point that other reviewers have mentioned. You do need to remain very still after you get on the scale; otherwise the reading may not lock. To make it work, I stand still for about 5 or 6 seconds. Just stand still and look straight ahead; don't look down at the scale until this time has passed. Occasionally the first reading fails. In that case, step off, wait for the display to go off, and get on again. If the first try fails, the second one almost always succeeds. A person with a balance problem, however, would have difficulty getting a good reading.I've confirmed that this scale displays a weight extremely close to the one at my doctor's office. (There's no guarantee, of course, that other scales of this model will be equally accurate.)Update March 2014: After almost 5 years, the scale still works perfectly and still agrees with the scale at my doctor's office to within less than a pound. Batteries have lasted from 14 to 24 months. If the scale starts acting flaky (e.g., turning off unexpectedly), replace the batteries, even if you don't see the low-battery indicator displayed.
