There are 2 layers of cloth. However, they do not block much light - so I wouldn't call them "blackout" curtains at all. I had to order a set of black curtains to hang behind these, to provide enough shadow to allow us to use our TV during daylight without having huge glare spots all over it. They look unusual, very calming and cozy feel from design and colors. It's almost no creases on them after unpacking, maybe just one in a middle, but it's almost unnoticeable. I ordered a privacy backing, not a blackout, so it's perfect - just enough light comes through in a daytime, and still doesn't damage our baby grand piano with direct sun. I custom ordered a grommets, backing and size, and everything was done right and quickly, customer service was very nice and friendly.
