Yes, it does. The handle to open it is under the cape. It is a beautiful nutcracker.

I bought this nutcracker as a gift for my son. I always buy nutcrackers whose mouth opens/closes. To be honest, I gave the nutcracker to my son for his birthday without checking the mouth. My son loved it. It is very detailed and was pronounced to be 'cool' - high praise from my son.

This one is made in China. He's stunning.

Do these actually function as nutcrackers, or are they simply decor?

I would not use as an actual nutcracker, but they are awesome!
