good product for the money
Like others had mentioned, it is easier to put the two pieces together if you use a rubber mallet on a solid surface. It really only requires a fairly gentle tap. The only criticism I have is that since all desk surfaces are not equal in thickness, for example, mine is glass, you need to put a chunk of wood in between to make up for the disparity. It's not the prettiest but for my purposes I don't really care as I work from home and honestly, I wouldn't care if it was at my office desk since it wouldn't be seen. With all that being said, it is fairly sturdy but I wouldn't use it for more than it's intended purpose. It isn't intended to be a tiny shelf.

Try not to lean on it(if you can...)
Just as expected. Bought a virtually identical one 5 years ago(the plastic post snapped). I had super glued the old one once before. I tend to lean slightly on the pad when using it, so given enough time and leverage it snaps. I was happy with it, though, so I purchased this identical replacement. Couldn't find my rubber mallet, so used a regular claw hammer and an old towel to LIGHTLY tap in the post(making sure to use a FLAT surface(floor) and that the post was 'squared up' first). Would(and will likely need to) order it again.

about 1 year-- stable + convenient
This desk shelf has been super useful for me. I've owned this shelf for 10 months and i am still satisfied with this product. Over the many months of usage, i've used this shelf for different occasions. The fact that you do not need any tools to assemble/disassemble makes this shelf a lot easy to place in different areas of the house depending on your situation. I usually have this by my computer desk. With my computer desk, the length where the shelf attaches is a little short and the clamp on the shelf does not hang on the table completely, but it still manages to hold on when screwed on.As you can see in the attached image, i have a full bottle of 16oz water and a PS4 controller on the shelf and it has no issues with holding those items. Also, when i push down the shelf a little, it does not fall off the edge of the table. This is really useful for me since, i currently do not have a dedicated keyboard shelf under my computer desk, so i don't have that much room on my table for other items. This shelf solves that issue by hanging on the edge of my desk, This shelf also features a slot for wired mouses, so you can have your wire tucked in the slot and not all over the place. Another area i sometimes have it at is on my telephone stand. This is where i am able to completely have the clamp against the edge.In the images provided, you can see that i have x2 7.5lbs= 15lbs of weight on the shelf and it still holds on the edge like a beast. In real use i don't think most people will have heavy objects on this shelf, but it is nice to know that you are able to do that if you happen to need to. Plus, it just shows how tough this shelf is. This shelf also comes in handy as it rotates in a full circle. You can easily hide this shelf underneath a table when not in use, so you won't have people bumping into it. Then when you wanna get back in using this shelf, you can simply rotate it back out to your preference. This product has made things a lot easy for me by giving me more space for other items to lay on. I recommend this to anyone out there struggling to find a spot to place an item, so you won't lose it.

Better than having your mouse on your desk but not perfect
I bought this after having my trackball mouse on my desk was leading to really serious arm issues--pain and numbness--brought on by hours of work at my desk (pandemic, anyone?). It's defintely helped by lowering the mouse and bringing it closer to my body. The problem is that the mechanism that screws it to the desk also lowers the mouse a bit too far. That means for my set up, the mouse pad doesn't actually swivel over my lap, which would be ideal. Instead, it sits just to the side of my lap. I have situated my trackball to the far side of the mousepad tray. If you were using a mouse instead of a trackball and had this issue, your arm would be way out of alignment with your body. My problem may be unique and not applicable to many others--I have my desktop set lower than the usual 28 or 29" to keep my keyboard low (and my hands below my elbows) to reduce keyboard strain on my hands, neck, and arms.

Excellent!
This works fantastic! I was having pain in my wrist from a sports injury and it hurt to place my hand on the mouse on the desktop and I needed something to lower the mouse to a more comfortable working position. I have two offices and home office so I bought three different units. I figured I would try the three units and use the best one in the office that I used most and the worse in the least used office. To my surprise ALL of the three units were TOTALLY identical. The only difference is the label on the clamp which can be peeled off. The Desk Potato has a stamped label on the clamp that says "STAND STEADY" and the others have "Aidata" and "Kelly" on the label but other than that there is absolutely no difference in the three units. Every other detail is the same. There is a cord guide that allows you to put the mouse cord in it and it stays in the cord holder quite well. As you can see in the picture I routed the cord through the cord holder and ran the cord BEHIND the clamp leaving play for the mouse to move. The unit has racheted stops that gently hold the platform in different horizontal positions. The unit is not adjustable vertically. The mouse platform is 2.75 inches below the desktop which works perfectly. Even if it did have vertical adjustment, the position seems perfect. This should work on any desktop. Mine is 1.25 inches thick and there was plenty of room to clamp to an even thicker desktop. The unit is plastic but appears quite sturdy and should hold up well for years. If you need the ergonomic improvement of a lowered mouse platform, either of the three of these well serve you well.Kelly 10405 http://amzn.com/B00BT347UGAidata http://amzn.com/B0050K7HGKDesk Potato http://amzn.com/B00KMI9TX4
