Didn’t use face plate. Works well though.
The back part is very thick. I didn’t want to put a hole in my van so did away with the plate and just left it dangling in a cupboard.

Works well
This works well, dimming my motorhome ambient lights which are too bright and take nearly 5A. With this dimmer, the lights are much better and much more efficient. I didn't use the facia plate as I made my own custom one

Awkward design
I have two issues with this switch. First, the nut attaching the faceplate to the switchbox cannot be tightened enough to stop the switchbox rotating as you turn the knob which is irritating and will lead to the nut becoming loose over time. The obvious DIY fix to this is to glue the faceplate to the switchbox, which leads on to issue two - the wiring can only be screwed to the switchbox when it is apart from the faceplate. I don't know why they couldn't have designed it with the wiring screws accessible from the back.
