Seems to work just fine
I needed a replacement for a years-old version similar to this one. Simple to use, and effective. This seems to be just as good, as long as I place it on a surface that aids the rolling action, and doesn't slide across the counter. I'm happy with it.

Don't buy
Cheap piece of crap. Came apart in 15 seconds. Knife doesn't line up properly in the groove and you have to turn it by hand cause it slips and slides. The pic shows a kind of rubber band (just like my 30 year old one) around the wheel for traction but it is just hard plastic. No wonder they require you to buy more than one. Item not as portrayed.

Efficient rolling knife sharpeners.
I grew up using roller knife sharpeners. I purchased these for my friend in Florida who also dislikes dull kitchen knives. She was thrilled.

Look for something else.
It's like sharpening a chef's knife with a very coarse file. I also had to but two of these. Not a good deal.

Garbage. Absolute garbage.
The metal outer faces have been replaced by plastic, this grabs the knife and nothing happens. What looked like a good idea ruined by penny pinching.

Messer lassen sich gut schärfen. Leider sind die Räder sehr rutschig, so dass ich mit den Händen eingreifen muss ...mein Vorgängermodell war da viel besser.

My friend had one of these so I got one too - it's super cheap and it does the job. After all, it's a grindstone! There's nothing fancy about it so there's less parts to break. This came really quickly, and I'm glad, as my knives are all blunt. Not anymore though.I recommend it for people who aren't too experienced with knife sharpening... The plastic wheel sides help you angle the knife correctly (something I didn't know). I don't use it in the see-sawing action, I just hold it still, angle it, and swipe the knife down, and it does the trick.For this price, it really is a good alternative to the fancier things out there. What more could a student want?
