Buyer beware, this knife is delicate and chips easily. Not worth the money and will never buy shun again! I have about 9 shun knives but now I will change to a more durable knife. I’m a professional chef, and these knives are not made for a chef, it’s more for looks.

Great knife. Very slicey, fits well in the hand, holds an edge well. It's the new favorite knife and we have had a 5 inch Wustoff santoku for years that used to be. 8 inch chef knives are great but if you haven't used something smaller, try it. The smaller 5-6 inch chef/santoku knives are the real work horses of our home kitchen. The additional control is what makes them so good.

My wife has small hands and usually uses a pairing knife for everything. This was small enough that she feels confident enough to start using it. Luckily, once she used it a few times she began to absolutely love it This knife is gorgeous and sharp as could be.. time will tell about the edge retention, but based on other reviews it doesn't look like it'll be a issue.

Love this knife! I have arthritis, and this knife is not too heavy and has a nice grip.

I'm a culinary student and my $20 chef knife just wasn't getting it done so I decided to upgrade, and I'm OBSESSED with Shun now. Obviously I don't have a lot of experience with other nice brands so I can't make that comparison, but my teachers do and when I showed them my knee knife many told me Shun is their favorite brand, so that says a lot in my opinion. I love how ergonomic it is. It's just a joy to hold and use. It's so balanced and lightweight feeling, it stays sharp for such a long time, and the 6" blade makes it a lot easier for me personally to get accurate cuts right. Like if you're trying to do a julienne and you're getting graded on it, I can wholeheartedly recommend this knife. My performance in that area has definitely gotten better since switching from 8" to 6" and this particular knife is just by far the best I've ever used. If you're hesitant to spend this kind of money like I was, keep in mind that shun has a lifetime warranty on all their products, so ideally you'll only make this purchase once and it'll last you forever :)
