Does this have a rubber gasket or something to prevent water on sink edge from seeping down?

Not really... the gasket that comes with it is thick. To seal the plug water tight, the gasket must go between the plug and the sink or counter top. If you place the gasket on the underside of sink or counter, water will leak through. The instructions call for using silicone rubber between the plug and sink/counter.

Will this cover a 1.5" diameter hole?

This answer was misleading because I have a 1.5" hole and the gasket that came with it was not quite big enough to make a good seal. The gasket is about 1.5" itself.

Does this come in different finishes?

yes it does, please check https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dtools&field-keywords=Danco%2C+Inc.+Sink+Hole+Cover+

What is the diameter of the threaded shank?

The Diameter of the shank is 3/4" the hole cover top is 1-3/4"

User

Great trim piece that was easy to install and matched perfectly.

These are perfect! We wanted to remove some built in soap dispensers, but that would leave a pretty ugly hole. I grabbed these and they match perfectly with the faucet. It was a snap to install and it looks quality enough to last a long time. The bathroom looks so much better with the built in dispenser gone!

Good look and fit.

Well this product does what it’s suppose to, hide a hole. I put in a new faucet and used the base plate to cover two additional holes in my sink top. Then I wanted to put a soap dispenser in. This meant I needed to utilize one of the two empty holes and used this cover / hide the other. Very happy with the look.Just a side note. The instruction say to use a caulking bead around the base and the washer. But I checked the website and it actually provide instructions to use plumbers putty. I used putty.
