Is that just a pointy metal cap on this thing or is it a tuned phase plug?

It is a tuned phase plug, like all midrange and midbass drivers from the Dayton RS range. It's certainly not a dust cap. A dust cap moves with the cone. A phase plug is fixed to the magnet assembly and basket, and does not move.

What is the exact minimum and maximum width of the face in inches?

If your asking about the dimensions of the speaker box face, the smaller the better, to minimize reflected sound. I picked these drivers to make a full range (no crossover) transmission line. They are mounted vertically at the top of 4 Ft' long wool lined boxes, Apx. 5" square. They play into a wooden cone mounted slightly above the drivers, which creates a 360o sound-field. The boxes are slotted at the bottom rear (about the size of the cone area) which enhances the bass by using the rooms corner walls. Over the years I have built Bass Reflex, Dancing woofer pairs, Di Eppilito configurations, and Folded horns. All of which was to achieve high sound pressure levels. The goal in this case was to try to achieve an undistorted, full sound spectrum, at moderated sound levels with a single driver.. These small drivers certainly filled the bill, and I feel one would have to spend significantly more money to attain a better sound using only a full range driver. Hope this helps.

Truly superb

These things are astonishing ... but please read the Dayton data sheet before you do anything. I always measure TS params and Dayton is one of the few manufacturers who provide numbers that agree with my measurements (within bounds of experimental accuracy, obvs.)

商品を見たときの印象は小さいな！でした。8cmサイズと変わらないぐらいです。自作SPBOX5.1Lバスレフでダクト調整の結果は低域は50Hzぐらいまで再生します。自作SPを50セット以上製作してきましたがこの商品は小ぶりながら自然な音質でなかなか良い一品です。 Dayton Audioは2作目ですがグーですね！良い商品を有難うございました。

Piccolo ma efficace

Ho costruito una piccola cassa per pilotare il Kemper profiler e molti ridono quando vedono questo piccolo cono, salvo poi ricredersi quando sentono il notevole impatto sonoro e la quantità di bassi che riesce a tirar fuori.

Good sound

I'm using these in a smart speaker project and they are working out great. The sound is good. They aren't party speakers so don't expect booming bass out of them. Instead, pair them with a 4" passive radiator for the low end. These drive pretty loud and the mids are clear.
