This is a work of utmost importance today knowing how poorly and unfairly the media cover and represent Islam! Graham has done his research well and sees beyond the misconceptions that have clouded the judgement of many writers. Highly recommend it, and hope to see more works of this kind.

Graham Furnishes the Missing Link
Mark Graham's book "How Islam Created The Modern World", is a befitting answer to those who willingly slip into a state of stupor for about a millenium, and want the world to believe that there existed nothing but "Darnkess of Ignorance" till the Europeans woke up to revive where the Greek and Romans had left. And the Muslims during this state of induced stupor of the Europeans just existed like pebbles at the bottom of a stream, dead and non-existing, doing nothing but rolling and gathering moss. As put by Graham so convincingly, Muslims' role during this period of over thousand years,at best as penned by the European historians had been to just 'hybernate' the eggs of wisdom laid by the Greeks and 'protect' the glory of the Romans, with a view to gratefully handing it over to their rightful heirs in the 14th century-the period of the advent of Renaissance. The Muslims had always been aware of their contribution to the human civilization because they had never been so as they are being thought of. Graham through this insightful book urges the Europeans to be honest, fair and gracious and give the credit to those who provided them a sound bedrock base to take off. It is a book written by Graham in moments when his soul was awake, and his mind and heart were triggered, and he was bent upon to speak the truth. whatever the cost.

House of Wisdom by Jonathan Lyon vastly superior
Perhaps I am being unfair but frankly this book made me want to throw up so breathtaking partisan is the author who heaps enough sugar coating onto the history of Islam (even as he denigrates the West) that readers run the very real risk of becoming diabetic. Contrary to the authors opinion, we of the West are far more aware of the contribution of early Islam to the transmission of knowledge and the sciences than he gives us credit for. Pick up any book on the history of chemistry (I am a chemist by profession) and you'll almost invariable find Muslim alchemists etc given their due. The House of Wisdom is a far better read for those interested in this topic, far more objective and lacking the irritating snideness the author of How Islam Created The Modern World heaps on the West and his highly selective portrayal of Islams accomplishments. I would have given the book one star but the irritating dribble is punctuated by some interesting facts.Having once been the light of the world Islam has long descended into its own dark age and it will take more than septic verbiage to change this fact or obscure the part the Muslim religion has played in their current scientific inertness.
