Obviously the plot is sparse here - I'm a literature nerd, and I'm determined to indoctrinate my nephews in the classics. Obviously, I had to check this out. This adaptation of Moby Dick is great. Obviously the plot is sparse here, and it doesn't quite have Melville's prosaic qualities — but who cares? The illustrations are beautiful, and the few words present throughout the book convey a lot. Even if my nephew can't write his dissertation using this edition of Moby Dick, he enjoys it quite a lot. If nothing else, it has fun pictures of whales, and what kid doesn't like whales? Plus it's a lot more fun for me to read to him than another book about some anthropomorphized animal toddler taking a bath or something. I'm excited to have found this, and I intend to get many of the other books in the series. Full disclosure: my sister-in-law, the mother of my nephews, is a little perturbed by this. I leave a pile of books out for him at any given time and for some reason, he will pick this book out of the pile and hand it to myself or my husband so we can "read" it to him.
