The Shadow [Blu-ray]

Still a good movie and has stood the test of time.

A good old fashioned movie, nothing to complicated just a fun time.

The Shadow a character from radio, comic books, serial movies, and finally here in a real feature length film. If you know who the Shadow is you probably want to see this film. And this Blu-ray is a great version of it. The story line is not the best or most believable but if you're into old radio programs neither were they, it's a really fun movie for kids of all ages.

I think this movie was really well done. It speaks of redemption. It shows good over evil. I think it is for mature audiences. I think it does the Shadow character really well. I think it fits in with the comic books of the same name. I wish they would make more of The Shadow movies or create a television series.

Like other 1930s themed box office bombs of the 1990s like The Phantom and The Rocketeer, The Shadow brings unexpected and underrated joy to the audience with an open mind. Again, this film may not be for everyone but don't bash it until you try it. This is a film like those previously mentioned above, that I grew up with. It is a staple of my film collection, not because it's an Oscar winner, not because the story is incredibly fantastic but simply because it's a fun movie with an interesting plot that doesn't take itself too seriously. Alec Baldwin stars as The Shadow/Lamont Cranston. His dark hair, piercing eyes and unique deep voice make him the perfect actor to play this role. John Lone stars as Shi-Wan Khan, the menacing villain who of course plots to take over the world. Penelope Ann Miller is our leading lady, Margo Lane and the great Ian McKellan plays her father, Rhinehardt Lane the physicist who Khan lures to help him with his villainous plans. Also starring is Tim Curry, henchman to Khan and whose performance is often overlooked.There are many reasons I enjoy this film, the casting, direction, lighting, story and script. There are moments of humor and that is always a plus in a dramatic/action style story. This film while PG-13 is a relatively clean PG-13 and does not have any heavy swearing, sex or overly bloody violence. I certainly appreciate it when filmmakers are classy enough to keep things clean because it makes the film much more enjoyable when you don't have to worry about pressing the skip or mute button. The Shadow is based on the original books and radio show and the art deco style and look of this film is a huge part of its appeal for me. Jerry Goldsmith's eerie score (especially the opening sequence) is unique and original.Some may call this film "cheesy" or stupid but you'll always have critics. Those who see this film for what it is can definitely appreciate it for its qualities that make it stand out from the mainstream.

This is a most excellent movie. Has been one of my favorite movies for many, many years. I think it's from the old radio stories I use to listen to when I was a child (before we got a tv when I was 7). One of them was named "The Shadow". It was much like this movie. I definitely recommend it.

懐かしい映画で、楽しめましたが、日本語の吹き替え版であれば、より楽しめたと思います。

Inutile de présenter le film qui s'inscrit dans la vague des super héros rétro des années 40 comme le Fantôme du Bengale ou Rocketeer. Les décors, costumes et effets spéciaux sont superbes et la mise en scène joue à fond sur le côté rococo des pulps. Ici, c'est un serial de luxe qui nous est offert. Si à la base, vous n'aimez pas le genre, alors vous n'aimerez assurément pas The Shadow, l'un des premiers super héros du genre, bien avant Batman et Superman.Au vu des critiques qu'à endurer cette édition, je m'attendais au pire aussi lorsque j'ai commencé à visionner le disque, rien de ce qui avait été écrit ou dit ne m'a paru fiable, l'image est tout bonnement bluffante et enterre le DVD. Désolé, mais c'est un VRAI film en haute définition et si vous ne vous en apercevez pas, il vaudrait mieux aller chez l'oculiste !

The shadow [Edizione: Francia] ...è un ottimo dvd tradotto in spagnolo ( inesistente la versione italiana) ci rivela una delle prime interpretazioni dell'attore Alec Baldwin. La storia è un po' un contorta: lo ritroviamo da qualche parte del Tibet dopo la seconda guerra mondiale. E' un ladrone e una volta fatto prigioniero viene costretto a fare il bene. qualche anno dopo lo ritroviamo a N.Y. nei panni di un ricco playboy e grazie agli insegnamenti ricevuti ha il dono di non farsi riconoscere quando combatte (the shadow-uomo ombra).Ciò che colpisce la fantasia è quando combatte contro il suo acerrimo nemico Shiwan Khan (discendente di Gengis Khan) quando si illumina l'hotel mentre lo colpisce con l'arma (phurba) fornitagli dal suo istruttore. tutto sommato è un film gradevole per tutta la famiglia.
