The nicest light bulb ever
For about a year I was spending all my spare cash buying LED bulbs for our local church to replace the dreadfully inefficient ones they had - attempting to cut their huge electricity bill. It got to the point where it was all anyone was talking to me about, and I don't like to be boring, so I thought I'd give it a rest. But then I saw this Osram HID replacement bulb for sixty quid and I just had to know - how on earth can a bulb justify being this expensive? When the cardboard box containing the bulb arrives you have a sense that it might be special - not that it's big, but it is surprisingly heavy for a light bulb. This means you need to consider whether the fitting you will stick it in is up to the task of holding it. I have a desk light with a bendy neck and the moment you screw this bulb into it it droops down to point at the floor. It would definitely not work in an anglepoise lamp with its finely balanced collection of springs holding it together. So, what else does it say on the box? Mine is the 2700 lumen bulb, and the box is surprisingly secretive about the wattage of the bulb, which it tells you in small print on the side of the box is 23 Watts. That's quite a lot of Watts compared to a modern LED domestic bulb, but still a lot less than an old fashioned incandescent domestic bulb. The biggest clue on the box is that it says this is a HID replacement bulb - a high-intensity discharge lamp, but without the high energy consumption you'd usually associate with such a bulb. When you turn the bulb on it is really bright - you definitely don't want to be looking directly at it unless you enjoy suffering an afterimage for about half an hour. I believe it's equivalent to a 250 Watt traditional bulb. Who knows. What I do know is that it makes my study seem like I'm outdoors in summertime, with the sun shining on me. And the light being 2700K is indeed a warm white colour. When you hold the bulb it's obvious why it costs so much - it has a complex construction, with five large heatsinks onto which are mounted the five LED arrays. I believe the main problem for life expectancy of LEDs is when their temperature is high, and I'm sure that's the purpose of these heatsinks - they enable to bulb to operate at the lowest practical temperature without relying on fans.So the big question with this bulb is whether it directs light in the direction you want it. It's certainly not a spotlight, it aims light away from it in all directions aside from in line with the screw thread. So it would be good as a ceiling light that aims to flood a large area with warm light.

Excellent design and super high quality.
The Osram Led lamp is a bit of a beast of a bulb and is heavier and bigger than I was expecting it to be. However I think it’s fantastic, it’s outputs 2700lm of warm white light of 2700kelvin and only uses 23watts in the process while maintaining an A+ energy rating. The bulb itself is really well designed and robust throwing out even light cover In 360’.The LEDs are well spaced apart for effective cooling. It’s not the cheapest of bulbs but it is one of the most impressive high quality bulbs I’ve come across, so for that reason I would recommend it.

Very bright and will save you lots of money over the years
Firstly let me go through my pros and cons for this product:Pro:Exceptionally brightLow power usageEfficient, little heat producedCon:ExpensiveEdison screw fitting with no bayonet adapter-------------------This is a commercial-level lighting solution, and would be great for garages, high hotel lobbies, carparks and so on. For residential use it’s far too bright, except maybe for an outdoor security light. It works just like a convention E27 bulb, but is almost as bright as a 200W conventional filament. Bear in mind it is physically a lot bigger than normal bulbs, and won’t fit into standard fixtures. This is quite a pricey bulb at £60, but you are paying extra for the Osram name, and the quality that goes along with it. I think, giving the estimated life of the product, it’s maybe £10-£15 more than it should be.OVerall I have no complaints about this bulb, it produces a nice warm white light over a large area, with no buzzing, heat or other problems.

Incredibly bright light
First off this is a large bulb and very much suited to a factory environment or a large shed or garage when you need decent light output. It is expensive for a bulb but you’ll soon re-coupe the costs after running it for a couple of years of replacing a similar standard bulb of equivalent light output. The fact that it will last you 50000 is so much longer than you would usually get out of a standard bulb. The distribution of light is perfect for the center of a room and having that clear bright light in the workshop is fantastic. The cool light is perfect for working in.The bulbs are really in a class of their own.
