House Repairs Is a Riveting Read and Works Exceptionally Well in the Classroom
House Repairs is both accessible and riveting. It contains a complex range of emotions and experiences, moving the reader to laughter and tears, and ultimately to a place of greater self- and communal knowledge. I highly recommend Jackson-Brown's work to poetry fans and general readers alike! One of my students similarly reported: I give House Repairs 5 stars!! It is not always easy to get into a book of poetry and read it straight through, however House Repairs pulls you in within the first few pages. This book will make you want to cry , laugh, and fight within the flip of a page. Angela welcomes the audience into her life while also addressing societal issues, and being transparent as possible. The world needs more books like House Repairs!!Another student reported: Brown gave us raw, unfiltered poetry that I genuinely appreciate. She tackles subjects like sexual abuse, divorce, police brutality, and finding love for yourself again. She does not sugar coat what she is talking about, she is blunt and honest about serious topics that should not be glossed over. I believe anyone from teenagers to adults can find healing and empowerment in her poems and relate to at least one of them in some way. Brown's poems inspired me to write poetry again, and to go on my own journey of finding my self-worth and value. Truly an amazing collection that I am glad to own.A further student reported: House of Repairs was a very eye opening read. As we've transitioned books throughout the semester I've grown a liking towards this book because Angela was very transparent. Each poem was very deep and understandable and it was almost as if you could hear her reading. Each word she chose went together perfectly and it provided an insight on how she was feeling. There are many people who can identify with her poems and I for sure identified with some of her poems, just based of being black in America. Overall I enjoyed the read and will definitely rate it a 5 out of 5 within the context of ratings.Another student writes: House Repairs was an excellent book that shows the struggles of overcoming a horrid past and living in a society that oppresses black women. The poetry made me think and feel deeply, which shows how great a poet Angela Jackson-Brown is. If you’re looking for something raw and truthful, House Repairs is your best bet.

Beautifully written and a great book about opening up about struggles.
I bought this book for a class and I am usually not a huge fan of poetry books, but this book was a great visualization of real-life scenarios. This book eloquently talks about instances in life that many people try to not talk about. She talks about her issues with her mother, sexual assault and many other issues. This book has a poem for everyone and I highly recommend everyone purchasing a copy. She is an excellent poet and writer and it definetly is a book everyone should read.

A beautiful collection of poetry !
Originally I read this book for a literature course, but now I find myself looking to this lovely collection anytime I am in need of inspiration or a dose of reality. House Repairs is full of pain, emotion, and strength. This collection takes us through Angela`s past traumas and emotions in a captivating and thoughtful way. I would recommend this book to anyone with a past and everyone ready to develop thier future.

Another classic
Angela Jackson never fails to impress. This type of poetry is so in right now but I felt felt it lacked depth. Angela invoked meaning to this type of prose, thought provoking, and definitely on display on my living room table.
