I had been trying to find a dark cherry stain. In our area I could only find Minwax which is a great product, but I was not getting the saturation and deep color that I was looking for. Enter Amazon Prime and Varathane!I come from a "stripping" family (furniture that is!) and Varathane, tung oil, naval jelly, and rottenstone were staples on our garage refinishing shelves. I was overjoyed (to put it mildly) to find such a good price and selection of Varathane available. I received my "Black Cherry" wood stain yesterday and it did not disappoint! The color is perfect and the saturation and penetration of the stain is amazing. I am staining an unfinished, off-the-shelf-bath oak cabinet, dark cherry (don't be hatin' :-)), to match some wood in my existing master suite. The color is perfect with just the initial coat!Let's face it folks, Minwax has done amazing things with the color and pickled finishes, but if you want the beautiful, rich color and grain of your natural wood to shine, Varathane has always been and will be my go-to stain. Try it, you WILL love it!

I used this to stain a partially finished hickory longbow. Absolutely beautiful finish. Really nice unique color. Note that it has a purple hue to it, rather than brown or red. I can see that being disappointing if you expected one of the latter colors. I can’t comment on its durability, as I covered over it with a clear polyurethane sealer.

Not much on giving reviews but I can't say enough what a good product this is. Building a bar and stained it Black Cherry. I was apprehensive about staining since with different types of wood . Birch plywood with poplar trim. I thought the different woods would not match up well but I was wrong. I let the stain sit for about four minutes and when I wiped it down the grain came to life. Great color too even though it has a purple cast to it. Very warm and rich color. I haven't applied the final finish yet but I'm very pleased so far. I've never had such good results with other brands of stain. Min-Wax has always been my choice but I wanted COLOR. Most stains only come in shades of brown. As an amateur wood worker I couldn't be happier with the results. Varathane from now on!!

Very poorly packaged. Grateful cans did not open in route. One piece of plastic in box to separate.
