Should I get washers so it fits tightly or should the handles be loose?** A: No washers came with mine either, but, they are not needed. Just tighten the self locking nuts until the handles don't wiggle loosely and you are good to go. This is a quality tool and should last many years like mine has. **Q: Surely the bolts holding the handles to the tines were put on backwards. Do the nuts and open ends of the bolts catch a persons boots & ankles?** A: I have not had a problem with catching my boots on the bolts. But then I put the lock nuts on the outside so the ends of the bolts stick out away from where I step on the broad fork. If you did not assemble the handles onto the tool and the nuts are on the inside, then whoever assembled the tool did it wrong. **Q: How long are the tines? Thanks!** A: The description says the tines are about 11-inches, the width of the entire head being 20-inches, with 5 steel teeth (meaning about 5" spacing between teeth). **Q: How long are the tines?** A: Tines are about 7-8 inches long for deepness. It works good for me. Though I also use one of my pitch forks too that has 4 tines about 2 to 3 inches apart and about 12 inches long to deepen and loosen soil for my root crop bed. I use the pitch fork after the Bully so carrots beets parsnips etc can grow real deep. But for all the rest of my no till garden the Bully works perfectly fine. * I dont pull fork up and break the soil to the point of turning it over the soil. My goal is to just aerate it. Mulch always keeps it workable and easy to pull any unwanted weed or plant.
