Great for those children who struggle with fine motor skills
I ordered this for my five-year-old son who was having some trouble with his fine motor skills, especially handwriting. It was recommended by and OT at his school and it was a great recommendation. He was unable to hold his pencil properly and this really helped. He used it for a few months before he was ready to hold his pencil correctly without it. We haven't looked back. We didn't have a choice of color and we did end up with a purple wrist band with a purple dolphin. Some boys may not appreciate the color purple, but my son didn't care. We only used this at home as the OT gave him one to use at school.I will probably hold on to this until my younger son (almost one year old) is ready to start writing, just in case he needs assistance. It's a great tool.

This works!
I was very happy to have found this. My son sees OT and after trying all types of things. This Handywriter has really help my son hold a pencil, crayon, pen....anything. It's comfortable and useful plus effective. I have recommend this to everyone who is having a hard time getting their little one to write or hold a pencil correctly. Without the handiwriter my son has to be reminded "fingers" and he will hold the pencil correctly. It's just going to take sometime but the handiwriter has helped out a great deal. I love this product.

Works Well
It is a pretty good tool for my son to use. He has autism and his hand writing is large and unfocused. This helps him write more legibly and a bit smaller so that he can stay within the line.

Comfortable and effective at repositioning pencil
I tried several grips with my son who has low tone muscles and is hyper flexible. This was just the thing he needed to fix his grip. His hand muscles are not strong, so he was hyper extending his thumb which in turn caused the pencil to point away from his body, resulting in a funky grip. Now that the pencil is positioned properly his thumb gently bends like it should and his writing has improved. He had a little muscle fatigue at the beginning but it faded quickly. Wish we had figured this out a year earlier.

Great tool
If your child is stabilizing his/ her pencil on a finger instead of through the web space this is an invaluable tool. I use it with all of the kids that I see who do not have a good grip. Grip is vitally important. If a teacher tells you that it isn't they are wrong. A child can make their writing look good with an ineffective grip but they will tire easily. The more they write the harder it will become.

Too much
You are asking to much of people to make them write a minimum on every single item. I am exhausted and am becoming unwilling to review things I really like because it is becoming a huge chore and I keep receiving requests to review over and over til I summit one.

Handwriting Improvement
This product is amazing. It really does make your child hold the pen/pencil/marker the right way, and I feel it's important to start working on handwriting if there are signs they are behind and that this tool will help improve their writing. My son is in Kindergarten at the moment and his teacher said she was concerned about his writing. I bought this to help and it has. If the one who needs this is not holding the writing utensil properly this will help.

Many faults
I had high hopes for this. I ordered it hoping it would correct my son's pencil grip (he holds his pencil so it leans forward rather than back toward his wrist). When it arrived I was surprised to see it is basically a terry hair tie with a little cable tie and a ribbon and charm attached. I took it out at homework time and my son was willing to try it. First, the part that goes around his wrist seemed a little small (my son is 9) but because it is stretchy he didn't complain. When we put his pencil in it we realized it will only hold a full length pencil comfortably. It won't work well with mechanical pencils or shorter pencils. He began writing and the tool is stretchy enough that it allowed him to just stretch it and resume writing with his incorrect grip. I kept pushing the pencil back into position while he was writing. And then he needed to erase. The only way to do this is to remove the pencil from the tool and then reinsert it every time or use a separate eraser and erase with your other hand because the pencil will fall out if you let go of it. I finally bagged it and decided it wasn't going to help like I was hoping.
