Is this the price for one speaker or two? the seller's own website has this price for _one_ speaker, yet amazon says: $399.00 ($199.50 / item). huh?

It is $399.00 for each speaker. It’s a good price for a tri-amp, neutral sounding monitor.

Will these work well at very close distance? Like 2 ft from each speaker? Tried the In-5 but need to hear the low frequencies and subs aren't working.

The in-8's have a nice flat, neutral response. Sitting only 2 ft. away from any full range monitor speaker is going to produce a perceived lack of low end due to the fact that the larger low frequency waves do not have time to fully develop. A 50Hz sine wave has a wavelength of just over 22 feet. You should try to position your speakers at least a 1/4 wavelength (5.5 ft.) away from your ears to get a better sense of what the low end actually sounds like. I use the in-8's at a distance of 6 ft. and they sound great.

How long is the power cable?

I never used because i already had, but I ould say 6 feet
