What’s the difference between the x2 and the x4 ?

The X4 can hold up to 4 blades at a time. The other is a single blade that can rotate to use as a scraper and the other end has a bottle opener.

Looking at getting this for roofing. Will the mechanism work okay if tar gets on the blades, and does it seem sturdy enough to cut shingles?

The gap between the blade and housing is quite small. I have no doubt that the mechanism would hold up however. I have used mine for carpet work and it hasn't missed a beat.
