How to Build a Pet Gate or Baby Gate Using Supplies from your Local Hardware Store: 2nd Edition

I received the paperback so I could build a gate for an older relative. My family member needs a gate at the top of steps that is high enough to prevent falls during the night. I also wanted it to be solid and withstand being bumped into with some force... and I couldn't get a contract to build it at a reasonable price.I looked for a product for a long time and these plans fit the bill.The slats really sink into the cross pieces and that they are reinforced as you build the gate making the gate really strong and easy to build - the project took me just one afternoon. I suspect it goes quicker if you build more of them!We were able to make the gate nearly waist height, and finished it using the stain instructions in the book so it matched the stairway perfectly both in design and color.All in all very helpful. I attached the hinges, and put in a doorstop for extra safety. The guide was very clear and every step was illustrated.Great value.

As a novice woodworker, I had no idea what I was getting into with this project. I read the book ahead of time and thought I could get this project done in a weekend. Not so much. There are several steps that require many hours of dry time. Luckily this wasn't a big deal. I feel very good with my finished product!
