10 On Broadway by DEYOUNG, DENNIS

Great addition to a Dennis DeYoung collection
Great arrangements of an eclectic assortment of B'way music. Not sure how he arrived at this particular set of songs, but they're done exceedingly well. Particularly love the doo-wop version of "On the street where you live," particularly since doo-wop was popular when My Fair Lady was on B'way. If you like Dennis DeYoung and have an appreciation for show tunes, this is a good addition to your collection.

A Perfect 10 on Broadway
I have known of Dennis DeYoung for a time now with his work with Styx. He never was a favorite singer of mine when it came to rock music. I bought "10 on Broadway" expecting it to be a self indulged crossover album done by a great rock singer who did a stint with "Jesus Christ Superstar" as Pilate. I put the cd on this morning and boy was I wrong. Not only did DeYoung out do himself, but it made me even think that he might be one of the best rock vocalist when it comes to technique and proper vocal emission. That never crossed my mind until I heard this album today! If you do not know who DeYoung is after listening to this album you would think for sure he was a broadway singer. This is legitimate as it comes folks. His voice on this album has a nice quality and blend especially for the more modern plays like "Jeckyl & Hyde", "Chess", "Les Mis" etc. that requires a pop edge anyway. Even the older Gershwin tunes was done in a fresh interpretation. The overdone song "Memory" even took me by surprise. His clear tenor voice is in tune, and belts out some high notes in true Broadway fashion. I have seen many modern plays on Broadway and I am telling you that DeYoung sounds better to me then some artists I have seen on stage without a doubt. The album is recorded in good taste not to mention that the acoustic production is flawless. Many of you DeYoung fans might be expecting some keyboard work from him, but he lends his hands on the accordian for only tune. To me this album shows DeYoung in his true vocal glory! This album is a perfect 10.

Not a big broadway fan but LOVE this CD
I've loved Styx since becoming old enough to listen to pop radio around 1980. Dennis DeYoung was my favorite voice of all time. However, as life moved on, I went through a period of hardly listening to music, due to the busy-ness of life. Now that my kids are old enough to enjoy rock, I am once again enjoying Styx music, now with my kids! We recently made a family trip to see DDY in concert with the SD orchestra. What a treat! It couldn't have been a nicer environment for my children (I can't say that of many rock concerts)! So after that, I was hungry for more DDY work and purchased 10 On Broadway. I think I've seen only 3 musicals in my life- amateur works, not Broadway. It's been over 15 years. After my first listen I was not terribly thrilled, but I gave it a few more tries, and I became hooked on it. I'm glad that DDY put some more culture into my family by allowing us to experience his diverse tastes- rock, ballad, classical, and now broadway! I sorely regret having missed him in Jesus Christ Superstar and The Hunchback. Love you, Dennis, love your letters on your website, and of course, love your Hundred Years CD too!

Could've Been Better
Was expecting to hear some great Broadway selections by one of the greatest vocalists ever. I was pretty disappointed. All but one of these songs are slow and schmaltzy - the lone exception is "On the Street Where You Live" which, while catchy, didn't exactly live up to what it could've been. The best songs are the ones not actually on the album - go to YouTube and search for "Tell Me On a Sunday" and "Pinball Wizard". Much better selections. Still, "Someone to Watch Over Me", "Summertime" and "It's in Every One of Us" are decent cuts also. Just thought it would be a lot better.

broadway unplugged
DDY voice was made for the stage and is in pitch perfect form. I could see him as ValJean in Bring Him home and It's in every one of us shines. The acapella On the street were you live is outstanding.
