Berkley BSLR662M Lightning Spinning Rod

i have used lighting rods for years. Not the same, total junk. Broke 2nd cast. Ordered a 2nd one. Broke 1st day. Garbage rod.

This is a lightweight rod that balances perfectly with a 2500 series reel, has plenty of backbone, and fishes like a one piece rod. My first time out, I caught 15 largemouth bass fishing plastic worms in thick weedy cover; this rod had no problem at all holding up to the fish - as I would expect - but to the extra pound or two of weeds that often came in with the fish. And to getting them out of the thick weedy cover they burrowed into once hooked. I was using 8# line and 4" or 5" worms, no weight, and this rod casts very well whether close or far.The rod is well finished, has 8 guides, comfortable rubberized cork handles, and a bit of exposed rod blank to improve sensitivity. The reel seat is well designed too; I don't like exposed threads on some rods that do their best to rub your hand raw by the end of the day. This one does not. My only quibble is that I wish they had put the hook keeper on the left side of the rod instead of the bottom.I wanted a quality medium power 2-piece spinning rod for road trip use that didn't cost a fortune, and this rod is perfect for that. I also bought a Shimano Stimula 6'6" 2-piece rod when I bought this Lightning Rod, and the Shimano will be going back for another LR.

The reel attachment do hickies on this don't adjust down to a small enough spacing to hold a very small reel. You have to put a bigger reel on it. This is lame since this is such a nice small light rod that would go good with a nice little ultra light small reel. To work around this I filled the slot with 2 part epoxy glue and let it harden in there so that the stem of my smaller ultralight reel would fit firmly in on this rod. Berkley, think harder and get it right. Your equipment used to be flawless. Other than that I love the fact that this is two piece which allows me to put it in a pvc pipe rod case and stow it behind the seat of my truck. Then I pull it out when there's a nice pond to bank fish on like on my way home from work. the action on this rod is also nice as the lightning rods have always been with their 100% graphite design.

I've never been a fan of expensive rods because I honestly cannot tell a difference, plus fishing (at least for me) is a pretty rough, grungy activity, and the possibility of a rod getting broken is always there. I got the 6'6'' 2 pcs and it's great. I was worried after reading some reviews that the area where the reel attaches was nothing but the open rod blank without any grip. Thankfully it's like any other normal spinning rod in that aspect. There is a molded plastic part on the grip area above where the reel attaches. This rod has plenty of sensitivity at the tip, and is quite stiff on down for more fighting power. I put a Piscifun Viper II 2000 reel on mine and it's a sweet setup for general fishing.
