Field Expedient SDR: Basic Digital Communications (black and white version) Paperback – March 1, 2016

I purchased all three books in this series and powered through all of them in about a week. My comprehension of SDRs and of GNU Radio has increased more in the past few days from reading these books than it had in the previous six months of me scrounging around through various tutorials I found online (they were useful, but these books were far more targeted and effective - for me at least). Volume three covers fundamental digital transmitters and receivers, along with the most popular modulation and encoding schemes. If you want to do digital SDR modes in GNU Radio, this book is exactly what you should read to get started and build a strong foundation. Unlike many outdated online tutorials, if you follow the steps in these books, you will get things to actually work. These books are also very good at teaching you effective troubleshooting skills for SDR digital comms and GNU Radio. I cannot wait for the fourth volume to come out!

Good examples, packs a lot of detail into hands on Labs.Toward the end I ran into an issue with QT gui sink auto -scaling that didn't exist in the text, but it was easy to work around, and in the real world systems have bugs....Still waiting for book 4!

Pretty good book!

All three volumes are very well written, clear, and easy to follow. Everything that you need to know to get up and running quickly without unnecessary details. Where theory is important, it is explained simply and clearly. Excellent working examples throughout.

Some pages are empty, some half empty, then there are screen programs to fill the ;age. There are pages, but they are waste.

Is the wrong thing I made a mistake when I select this book.

Hi Paul, I have been trying to contact you with a question regarding Book 4. It's been mentioned in every book and that is the key piece I am learning SDR for, to reverse engineer unknown signals from digital communications.Is it still planned or the plans have changed?Thank you
