A Song for You SHM

I had the original CD releases of the Carpenters, then sold them when the remastered versions was released. Boy, to my surprise, the remastered versions were sonic-ally awful, no depth, three dimension sound stage, and Karen's voice was in echo, on every CD, seemingly the same as if they just used the same Technic, even if the original did not have echo (reverb) in it. These SHM-CD, not only are true to the original LP releases, but the sound quality is analog warm, clean and no harshness of distortion. Richard, who help master the A&M remasters, should seriously take lesson from the Japan technicians, who absolutely gets it right.

Song for you from shm CDs Japan, mini paper sleeve limited edition, is expensive but if you want to hear karen sounding better than before, buy this and you will not regret it.Kalle Kennedy London

If you could only buy one Carpenters album this is it! Firstly, the sound quality is very good. Secondly, the mlps design is good although not as great as the previous two mlps versions for "Close To You" and "The Beige" albums but you do get a cardboard square replica of the original vinyl centre circle and another insert with all the lyrics in Japanese and English in a bigger font. Also included are a strange square of the Obi and another square with all the track listings and lyrics in Japanese. The inner sleeve that holds the cd though is a work of art to behold!This album, their fourth, is a real treat too as in my opinion it is their strongest track wise as with the exception of the strange and out of place "Intermission" which I personally wish was left out every track is very very good. Even the Richard originals are very, very good and my favourite Carpenters' original track is here: "Goodbye To Love". As a guitarist myself it is hard not to like this tune as it has in my opinion among the best guitar solos ever recorded. "Top of the World" is the other excellent Richard original track while "Crystal Lullaby" is also a very beautiful track. Noteworthy here is that they stopped going back to the Bacharach well although they revisited the Williams well once again with their cover of "I Won't Last A Day Without You" that to date no one has come close to topping as the definitive rendition. I really enjoyed the Leon Russell cover here which I feel is a very good rendition although I'd give the edge to Michael Buble here as my favourite cover of "A Song For You". Karen did however make Carole King's "It's Going To Take Some Time" all her own. This album is so good that it could very well be a greatest hits album in its own right but for me it is clearly the best album they have ever recorded.Overall this is a decent mlps release and I wish all mlps releases could be done with such obvious love, respect and pride.Highly recommended!

the songs are 5 stars. the 1 star is for the overly rated & hyped format of SHM-cd. i had to try it for myself. this SHM-cd pretty much sounds like the 1999 regular cd remaster. i have a very good stereo, an Oppo bluray head unit & KEF speakers.

ハードロックに狂っていた若い頃はカーペンターズの良さがわかりませんでした。当時日本で人気があったので、どんなものかと思い一枚買って聞きました。なんだやっぱり商業主義の売れそうな緩い音楽ばかりで儲けているなぁぐらいにしか思いませんでした。25歳を過ぎた頃から大人になってきたせいか、だんだんカーペンターズの良さがわかるようになってきました。その若い頃に買ったレコードがこのアルバムでした。今はレコードプレイヤーも無いので、今回懐かしく思いCDを購入しました。夜中にひとりで聴いているとカレンの歌のうまさと素晴らしい歌声に涙ものです。良いです。ものすごく良いです。カレン ・リチャード！私は音楽について何も知らないガキでした。改めて今ごめんなさいと謝ります。あなたたちは素晴らしいアーティストです…

1972年当時気に入ってLPを聞いていたので、久々にCD(32XB-53）を聞こうとしたら「ソングフォーユー」と「動物と子供たちの詩」の初めに音揺れがあった。アマゾンプライムで聞いてみたらやはり揺れている。流石にデジタルリマスター盤（UICY-25297)なら大丈夫だろうと思い購入しましたがやはり揺れてる。GOLDなどのベスト盤では綺麗に修正されているのに何故？LPでは揺れて無かったと記憶してます。う～ん、マスターテープの劣化だとは思いますが(元々揺れていたのかな？）きちんとした修正版で出して貰いたかった(何のためのSHM-CDなんだか）

レコード時代によく聞きました。やっぱり良いですね。好きな方はアナログで聴くべきです。

中学生の頃大好きで兄のレコードを何度も聴いていました。ＣＤになってから買ったのですが、昔の感動がよみがえりました。今でも懐かしく思います。

amazonへの登録が2012年9月なので、高音質なCDでは無いかと期待して購入しました。期待通り、ラベルには「SHM-CD（Super High Material CD）」「すべてのCDプレーヤーで再生可能な高音質CD」と表記してありました。登録情報に「CD」だけでは無く「SHM-CD」と書いていただければ、親切です。マスターは1998年（A&M制作）。LPレコードを紛失していましたので、これからはこのCDで懐かしく鑑賞します。
