Good read
I really was impressed by this book. Cesar goes through various breeds and behaviors. He goes into detail with his methods for making a happy dog. Everyone can benefit from this book, even those of us who've had dogs throughout our lives. There is always something new and simple. It helped me identify some behaviors that I wasn't even aware of. He gives simple, direct instructions to help your dog out. They work the first time. I have a 6 month old puppy who jumps on people when they arrive in our home. We used his method of no eye contact, keeping our voices even and it works every time. I feel a stronger connection with them than before.

More Good Advice
For the most part this book is a fresh overview of Cesar's most basic principles. But it's also a book that is shared through the prism of Cesar's own life and take on life. Cesar reflects on dogs and their relationships with mankind and places deeper meaning in many of his methods. What most of the five critics Cesar has seem to fail to understand is that Cesar is not a dog trainer. And he's more than a behaviorist. Cesar's approach is a spiritual approach as silly a that may sound. He wants to teach people how to connect with their dogs and tune into what's ailing them and be able to communicate with them. From there everything else flows and so many people don't seem to appreciate that approach. I see Cesar evolving as a person in his books. He's grown greatly judging from this latest book.As far as I'm concerned, Cesar is a god to the cause of dogs. Cesar has done more for the cause of the animal welfare and enlightenment of America's approach to dogs than anybody else and no one can take that away from Cesar. I myself have been askance at times because of Cesar has approach has sometimes involved a certain level of cocky preachyness. But judging from this book, I'd say Cesar has grown greatly and become a greatly enlightened person.I love you Cesar!! And so does my well balanced pack. I could never have had four dogs before you. I could never have walked four dogs and I could never EVER have taken in a pit bull rescue dog. I also would not be a foot soldier in several local dog rescue groups.Thank you for what you've done for my life Cesar!!!!! I dream of taking your class one day.

Nice review of his basics if you’re already a fan.
This book is a little older so I’ll cut him some slack for some older , now disproven ideas, such as dogs not seeing color or understanding words. Granted not all dogs precisely understand words but we now have proof that many do and it took discipline exercise and affection. This book is more personal than his other books, more anecdotal, and it’s more general- almost assuming you’ve watched his show and are familiar with his techniques, so if you’re really new to Cesar”s Way (pun intended), I would recommend you read Cesar’s Way and How To Be a pack Leader instead. One thing he doesn’t stress enough or have enough tips on, IMHO, is specific ways to engage your dogs especially if you live in suburbs where currently it’s 114 and it’s mostly concrete with heat advisories in effect every day. My little dogs do overheat so we are currently taking only very short walks at 4:30 or 5:00 am and then we.re indoors all day.I throw balls down the hall for retrieval and change out toys, butId love to know what cesar would do with his pack in he were snowed in for example. The bigger dogs could enjoy the great outdoors. Malteses , chinese cresteds and chihuahuas, not so much. It’s not just putting sweaters on them. Little dogs have more limitations.I disagree with Cesar about the strollers in that strollers are a great way to bring your well behaved non yapping pup into non dog friendly places, so AFTER the dog has walked, if you want to say... go to an indoor mall where non service dogs aren’t allowed, people will generally look the other way if your dog is restrained and mostly out of sight. When I take an auto road trip, I always take the stroller and the Pet Pouch. I stroller train my (small) dogs. I also carry a pet pouch on walks because one of my 13 year old Chinese cresteds can no longer do the entire pack walk, so when she begins to wheeze, she goes into a pet pouch and the other two finish. This is also really great if you have a chihuahua and a Great Dane mix. Pick up the little dog and finish your walk. It’s good to remember though, that strollers and Pet Pouches DO NOT take the place of a feet on the ground walk. They would fall into the affection category.I wish he would stop bragging in all his books about how he came here illegally. He is an exception because he had a little practiced skill and those were different times. He was not an immigrant but an illegal alien and if Americans crossed into Mexico illegally we wouldn’t find the same successes and opportunities there.I’ve just restarted watching all the old “Dog Whisperer” shows again. As an ex dog rescuer and foster mom- I did many things instinctively, but I learned to much when it came to handling packs of 9 or 11 fosters.Thank Cesar.

Did wonders for our dog ma family
This is a great read for any dog owner. I didn’t realize how much more exercise my dog neeeded nor did I realize how important it was to set boundaries for her. This is a great basic and introductory book to training and owning a dog. Since reading this book I’ve changed how I approach problems we have been having with our dog and since then she is like a different dog! Her anxiety is less, she doesn’t beg at the table but most importantly my dog and son are relaxed around each other. I recommend also watching Cesar’s shows and learning how to read your dog’s body language.

Every dog lover should read this
Cesar has done it again with his newest book. It is filled with excellent insights into how dogs see the world, and the mistakes that many humans make when interacting with dogs. Although there is nothing new here if you have been a regular viewer of The Dog Whisperer show and read his previous books, this new book is a shorter and well-organized guide on how to deal with the most common behavior issues. This book, like his previous books, is written in his speaking style, and if you're a fan of his shows, you can hear his voice in your head as you read. His personal story at the end of the book is very moving, and I applaud his courage for sharing it with his readers. Through his books and show, he has been my guide and teacher with my own dogs for many years, and I always recommend his books and show to fellow dog owners.
