As part of a unit on Indigenous peoples of the PNW for a first grade class this book was invaluable. It captured the spirit world experience, celebrated Coast Salish art and connected to our science unit on orcas and salmon. It could be used for any age group. A great tie in for studying authors purpose and inference.

Neat story telling a Native  tale told with vibrant artistry.  Reminds me a little of "Where the Wild Things Are".  Not too wordy.  Good for 2nd grader.

I became aware of Storm Boy through some cards in a bookstore.  The artwork was so fabulous I had to buy the book.  I purchased it originally to give as a Christmas gift to a child, but after receiving it, I am keeping it for myself.  The story gives  the  reader some sense of the mystical aspects of life of the NW coastal native people.  Consciousness takes many forms in humans and animals - this is one such story, and it is fascinating.  I can't believe I had never heard of it before - so glad I took a chance and ordered it!
