Dorman38674 Tailgate Latch Compatible with Select Nissan Models

Fixed my broken tailgate latch on the driver side. I believe it works for either side too. Easy install and highly recommend

I think this can be used for either passenger or driver side. I used it for driver's side on a 2004 Titan King Cab. It comes with 2 new bolts (same size, but different looking heads). The spring on my tailgate latch (driver's side) broke, so everytime I wanted to close the tailgate I had to manually reset the latch with my finger. I replaced the tailgate latch with a Dorman 38674. It took about 30 minutes. The hardest part was the bed liner. I tried to remove the plastic retaining clip from the side of the tailgate to the bed liner. In the end I just left the retaining clip in and worked underneath the loosened bed liner. The Dorman latch comes with 2 bolts. The head of the bolt for the tailgate cable is slightly different from the other bolt to allow the cable to rotate, but you could probably interchange them. My titan came with a bed liner. 1. remove 2x 12mm bolts from latch 2. remove 8 screws (philips) from tailgate bed mat 3. there is a retaining clip on each side of the tailgate holding the bed mat down. Better not to remove them. If you try to remove them, they will probably mangle and will need new ones. To remove, pry straight out with plastic pry tool or wrap string around it and pull out forcefully. It's hard, so just leave them in. 4. Instead, without removing retaining clips, just lift up bed mat and put 2 small boxes between bed mat and tailgate to make room. Then remove the metal shield at top of the tailgate. The metal shield is glued to the rubber top of the tailgate. The metal shield and tailgate top comes out together. The rubber top of the tailgate is held in by retaining clips. The end pieces can be pinched to remove, or just pry them out and they will break. Those end pieces are molded into the tailgate top, so once they are broken they cannot be fixed. But they don't matter that much. The other middle pieces can be pried out and they should come out with a little prying. then slide the top off the tailgate. This will expose the latching mechanism and metal rods that go to the latches. 5. At the tailgate latch release, unclip the metal rod. Do this by inserting a tiny screwdriver into the notch at the top of the plastic clip and gently prying away. This will undo the clip and release the rod. 6. Now, you can pull out the latch from the tailgate partially. Note the orientation of the rod and the latch before you disassemble. Release the rod from the plastic clip at the latch using a flat blade screwdriver to pry it. 7. The Dorman latch came with the plastic clip oriented backward. Just release the clip by pinching the end and wiggling it out. Replace the clip on the other side. Then insert the metal rod into the new clip and new latch. 8. Rethread the latch and rod back into the tailgate. Loosely Bolt the latch back to the tailgate. 9. Reattach the rod clip at the latch release handle. Test the latch works when you pull the release handle. 10. Reassemble and tighten every bolt and screw.

Universal, perfect...enough said.

Easy to install, took about 10 minutes. Had to use pliers to squeeze the handle rod into the new one due to the new keeper being tight

Good quality, direct fit. Lock clip was installed upside down but after a quick swap and five minutes later all done. Springs are the same quality of OEM.

The spring was to stiff for the latch to hang on to the tailgate’s lock even if when you push too hard it does not lock.
