So far no action.
So I did not get peas planted in the fall. Housing was an open question, so did not invest for spring harvests.I'm trying to make up for it by planting as early in the spring as possible. How warm does a cool weather crop need to sprout?Google results: "Austrian winter peas will put out active growth every time the temperature outside or under their cover is 40℉ or warmer, otherwise they will hunker down and wait for warmer days."We have a non-insulated garage that a handful of the peas were in, in a shallow jar of muddy water, for a week while March weather had a riveting battle between snow and melt. So about a consistent 50*. I know this from some brooder heat lamp tests. No signs of sprouting.Whatever had already made it into the ground has not made a showing yet, either. Probably just as well. Heat and melt are fickle these days. I hope they are doing something UNDER ground, though. Established spring bulbs are coming up.I'll give it 2 more weeks before being totally disappointed.*****************UpdateI think I saw a FEW short sprouts poking out of the dry grass mulch a month or so in. Next time I checked, they were gone. appear to have died, or been eaten by the many local deer.I won't be buying these seeds again. Maybe others will have better luck.
