Ghost, one of the most esteemed and celebrated rock bands in the world today, return with their fifth psalm, IMPERA, fronted by the newly anointed Papa Emeritus IV. A dozen songs take on themes of isolation and demigod worship, as well as colonization of both space and mind. And all with the infectious hooky brand of rock their fans have grown accustomed to. Baby Blue Cassette with 6-panel J-Card.

Ghost circa 1983 is phenomenal
I have all of Ghost’s albums on LP or CD or both. Opus was my favorite. Like Blue Oyster Cult went to Juilliard, became witches, learned a ton, and then dropped a bomb of an album. I’ve listened to it at least 100 times over the past decade. I was very excited for Impera to release after hearing Hunter’s Moon. Ghost are so tight musically and that song is an good example of this. In 1985 Hunter’s Moon would have dominated radio play ( I was 12 so I remember what was on…). I received Impera on vinyl today and there is more of the same yummy rock. The first song brings to mind Journey and a bit of Rush and the next song is Foreigner all the way. After that though it is all Ghost jamming unapologetically like it’s the early 80s and I love it. The Nameless Ghouls are such good musicians. Seriously ! And Papa has a fantastic, almost beyond belief, melodic voice. I think 2 of the songs are a bit meh but the rest is great music. All in all a super tight, highly pleasing album. I think it is as good as Opus. Musically better; but I do like the lyrics and subject matter more from Opus. The vinyl quality is high and sounds super. A nice insert too. An easy 5 stars !

Unexpected
The music on this album surprised me, not having any idea what to expect but guided by the artwork. It seems that the two don't jive with my preconceptions. I heard sounds that could've come a Toto cd. Not a bad thing but unexpected. Overall a pleasing experience.

Grew on me like space moss on Jordy Verrill
I was not looking forward to this album after hearing the first song that was released. I was an idiot. This album is amazing. I think my initial disappointment (furthered by the second song) may be in part to the videos that accompanied Hunters Moon and then Call Me Little Sunshine. I have always loved Ghosts videos and both of these left me lukewarm. Then I watched the lyric video for twenties and was just completely confused. But that was my reptile brain. Reactive, instinctual. It wanted something that hadn't evolved. I ended up listening to all three songs again shortly before the album released (this time without videos) and couldn't get them out of my head. Then the album came out and I listed to it over and over again for most of a day. It's got a Toto song on it. Like maybe not enough of a Toto song to get in trouble but still. Weird and wonderful. Very poppy but still has some metal at it's core. Highly recommended.

Ghost does it again!
I discovered Ghost when I saw them open for Iron Maiden 5 years ago. It didn't take long before I bought all of the albums and found myself enjoying them all. So I was very excited to hear this one. I love this album. Every time I put on I want to listen to the whole album. Even Twenties which is the most "experimental" song on the album grows on you after a few listens. Some people are complaining that this album is too "pop". Ghost has always been more a melodic hard rock band then heavy metal. The CD itself comes with a booklet with a picture for each song and it is in a jewel case which I like. I have the LP as well and I would say the LP is slightly better sounding than the CD which is bit more compressed. But it still is an enjoyable listen and I wouldn't hestitate to get it if you only buy CDs.
