Superior
These are among the best headsets I have ever used. I am so pleased with every aspect of these headsets from the build quality and comfort to sound quality and isolation and everything in between. I’m not sure why they’re not mentioned in many of the reviews. Are there regarding good quality headsets I can swear by these they have a nice weight to them but it’s not compromising comfort. They come with a detachable cord. easy to use out of the box. They have a snug fit for passive sound isolation and minimal bleed. You get a balanced sound (not flat dead) where you can get the subtle nuances without over emphasizing a frequency over another. Great value for money.

Great sounding headphones
I use these headphones with my Yamaha a-s1200 amp when I don’t want to disturb the wife and kid with my loud music. I’ve got to admit they are overkill paired up with that amp. They are loud. Really loud. High sensitivity, low impedance, exciting, very detailed, muscular sounding at times (specially with Modern music, pop, hip hop, metal). There’s some heft to them and the built feels premium. Cushions are very soft. I don’t get why people complain about their weight. They seem just fine to me. Probably younger folks who didn’t live through the 70’s and 80’s era of really heavy home audio headphones. I do enjoy them. Judas Priest sounds like they’re supposed to. I get every detail out of Nina Simone’s music. Steely Dan sounds magical The sounds of recordings by Johnny Cash, Miles Davis, Black Sabbath and Celtic Frost has been upgraded with these headphones. Besides that I do not have anything bad to say about them. I’m in my 40s so to these older ears they sound just right.\,,/

A real awakening
I've been using a set of Sennheiser HD 280 Pros for recording purposes for several years now. Always liked them. I put the Yamaha headphones on and noticed two things immediately. First, the mids are much more pronounced. The details found there emerge and completely change how I hear the music. Second, the bass is much more "boomy," but the tone is smoother. Sounds strange, but that's what I hear. Overall, I hear greater depth of the soundstage. I'll have to play with them for a bit to see if I like the bass aspect. It might be fatiguing using settings that I'd apply with the Sennheisers. Then again, I need to readjust some of my mixes and listen to them on regular speakers to see if, perhaps, the Yamahas are more accurate.

Stellar comfort / Incredible sound
I’ve owned a pair of the MT7s for a long time and have loved them. However the MT7 gets a little uncomfortable after an hour of use. The MT8s are amazing comfortable. In a side by side comparison it’s obvious the quality upgrade in materials. I just had an editing session for hours and they rocked the whole way through.Sound quality, is excellent! In another comparison the MT8s have a richer and warmer tone. It’s very easy to hear when you have a high end a little too high. My engineering in sound is with music recording and mixing, and with video production. I’m very comfortable saying these are an excellent solution for you if your looking for a great set of cans. The one con is the detachable cable and how it connects to the headphones. I’m not really certain if it’s the unit itself or the jack set up... but when you move around, you can hear the cable brushing your shoulder or arm almost like a vibration in the headset. It has thrown me off a couple of times so I would suggest when you are in you final cut or master using this product, hold still enough so the cable doesn’t add any artifacts to your ears while making you important choices.

Very good headphones - perhaps a bit bass heavy
I've spent decades listening to headphones and these are very good. I have a pair of new Yamaha HS-7 studio monitors in a well treated room that I'm comparing these to, as well as a pair of Shure SRH440 phones. Then I brought in a pair of Yamaha HS-8 monitors and the fun began. My conclusion is that the HS-8 monitors and these MT-8 headphone both have a bigger, fatter, and deeper bass response than the HS-7 monitors or than the SRH440 headphones and as a consequence the midrange and highs are just a bit under represented - to my ears, in my room. The overall quality of the sound of both 8's is a bit darker with a bit less clarity of everything above the bottom end. In my case I seek a perfectly balanced mix so I prefer the HS-7's and the SRH 440's. However, it's also true that headphones couple to different individuals' heads in different ways, so your listening experience may certainly differ. And lots of people prefer the HS-8's. And some people add subwoofers to the HS-7's. So, you'll have to try things for yourself. Hope this helps.

To the person who returned these headphones...
Thank you whoever you are, seriously. Your return allowed me to purchase these headphones at a great discount from the Amazon Warehouse. I’m not sure why you returned them but I found them to be flawless at their price point. These phones are almost as good as my Fostex T60RP’s in sound representation and even have a very, very slightly more accurate imaging with razor sharp details in the highs but with more bass, thankfully not Beats grade muddy bass. These headphones weren’t even broken in yet and they sound that good. What makes these phones better than My Fostex’s is that they’re easy to drive with no amp required, rendering these cans useful on the go. Don’t get me wrong, the T60RPs are my go to headphones for sonic pleasure, but for anywhere else away from my amp these Yamahas meet my audio needs. Are they worth full price? Yes, but they’re a steal when discounted.Update: Good news, Audio Technica ATH-M50x replacement cables will work with this headphone. Even the lock pattern on the 2.5mm male jack is identical.
