Entertaining detective story set in the First World War
Entertaining detective story set in 1915. Provides some of the back story for the protagonist, Will Stanley, though also alludes to more mysterious beginnings. Set away from the front, and earlier in the war, there is a significant contrast in the mental state of the characters from the first book. Also adds an interesting personal perspective to Kitchener, interesting to know if he really was that comfortable with juniors. some interesting departures from history explained by the author at the end.Enjoyable piece of light reading, looking forward to the next.

Unusual setting for a FWW mystery
Set in the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich in 1915, the game is afoot as Will Stanley and the faithful Crabtree race against time to solve a series of murders. A number of typos and some random words, the kind left behind when a sentence is edited, spoil the flow a little, but the story is gripping enough that the reader will push on past the inconveniences. Some character development adds to the tale and is an added incentive to look forward to the next book in the series. Overall a decent read.

Fairly fast paced.
Another very good attempt by Alex to mix history with fiction. Very readable and looking forward to the release of Blue Murder.

Excellent
I enjoyed the book but in hindsight wished I had read this (book 2) before book 1. That is just my opinion. The period mood has been captured perfectly. Recommended.
