The Foxwood Treasury: Bk. 1 (Foxwood Tales S.)

I bought a secondhand copy of this from World of Books and I couldn't recommend them more. Other than a small scuff on the bottom of the front hardcover, there isn't so much as a crease on the pages and this book looks like new.Unlike most other reviewers, I have not bought this book for a child, but for myself (I am late thirties!). I have become a bit obsessed lately after discovering this style of cosy, comforting, beautifully illustrated books for the first time. It started off with the Brambly Hedge Collection, followed by Inga Moores illustrated version of The Wind in the Willows and now this beautiful treasury. I don't know if it is the worries and pressures of the world in which we now live (Covid, War, price inflation etc!) but I find an immense sense of comfort in these books. I can while away a good hour or two just gazing at and appreciating the extraordinary illustrations and the fantastical worlds created. I think the illustrations in these books are both timeless and ageless and I am very proud to have this Foxwood Treasury as part of my little collection.

This book has fantastic illustrations that make you travel together with the little animal characters to the country, to the sea and the river, to a carefree childhood. You can taste the food, smell the flowers and fruits, feel the afternoon light and the fluffy snow. Except the crease in the spine, the used copy I ordered is in great condition.

Bought to replace a treasured smaller book by this author, this is a stunning and truly lovely children’s book that will become an heirloom in our family. It’s simply far too gorgeous to ever part with. The illustrations are wonderful.

As I said in my review of the Ladybird book, these "older"children's books are far superior to the books on sale now. My daughter, aged 37. had these as a child and loved the tales and the detailed illustrations. This is for her daughter but I'm sure mum will be reading it with nostalgic pleasure as I did. An excellent buy.

This treasury of stories is a lovely book for young and old.The illustrations are beautiful and my 6 year old granddaughter is enchanted by the stories and pictures. It arrived in very good condition for it's age and I am very pleased with it .
