I've purchased several of these books as gifts. I've followed the advice in this book for years and the stretches do work.

Fantastic book
This book changed my life! I’ve done these exercises every day and I am a different person. Would recommend this to anyone with back pain.

I abused my back,now i'm I pain---Heeeeelp!
I abused my spine for many years-slouching,not sitting down the right way,lifting things up-the WRONG WAY, etc. I started to suffer from a herniated disc.That is where the "gel" in between the vertabrae starts to poke out and it causes ALOT OF PAIN.My sister-who had the same affliction-told me about this book and the exercises in the book.I must say,after reading it carefully and following the exercises,after a few months I did healmy spine-the gel went back in and now,two years later-I am fine. BUT,I also learned theimportant lesson of taking care of my back-lifting, bending, etc.This book has PHOTOS of people actually doing the exercises step by step.This is valuable to the reader/learner. It also shows the correct way to lift objects and sit-all illustrated with excellent photographs. I ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND THIS FOR ANYONESUFFERING FROM BACK PAIN. do not give up!--learn from this book-I did.***POST SCRIPT REMARK***As of November 2016,I still have no back pain /No herniated discproblem, so it worked !!*************

Don't buy kindle
I bought this for kindle and it's honestly hilarious. It's literally a sideway black and white photo copy of the book. Completely unusable. Like if I went back to 1998 and put this book on a xerox machine page-by-page.

I found Robin McKenzie's booklet to be very helpful with my back issues, it was a good buy at a very good price.

So far so good.
I have not finished reading this book. I read enough to do the suggested sleeping positions, but found them to be uncomfortable. Old habits die hard.

A 5* solution to lower back pain.
I have never suffered with back pain, and then apparently out of the blue I developed what you may call a twinge in my back. Next day I could feel something at the bottom of my back. The day after I could feel real discomfort. By the fourth day I was suffering and it was taking me twenty minutes to get out of bed and into a standing position. I was screaming. I could not even shuffle my bottom around in bed. This went on for two days and in the end I went to the doctor, who prescribed strong anti inflammatories and pain killers. They had no effect.Then by accident while bemoaning my fate I told a friend who was a medical secretary.She said that her consultant recommended a book called “Treat your own back”.Off I went onto Amazon and found an old edition for 1p, yes one penny + postage. What arrived was a new copy of a very old addition. It is about 75 sides long. I read it from cover to cover and boy did I learn a lot about common lower back pain. My problem was probably caused by slouching as I do a lot of reading.The explanations given are just brilliant. One section contains lists of conditions. For example: If you experience conditions A,B and C etc do not do the exercises in the book and consult your doctor. If you experience conditions X,Y and Z etc the exercises are most likely to help. I fell into the second category so I did the first four exercises about four times a day.In two days I could walk around normally but I could still feel my back, two days later I could go for walks but could still feel something. Three days later I was out walking on the hills in the lakes and would say I was totally back to normal.If you suffer from lower back pain I would recommend that you purchase this book, and having read it make your own decisions.I also bought a “Lumber roll” which I use in the car as this helps to improve your posture and reduce slouching.

Bad Back - Get this Book!
I have had copies of this book for 20 years and have sent numerous copies to friends and collogues when they have mentioned having a bad back. Firstly it empowered me with simply put understanding on my bacs "mechanics" that let me have much better and inclusive conversations with the medical professionals that have helped me. Secondly I personally find the exercises and stretch's very useful and they form part of my rescue routine if my back flares up.

Must read for long term lower back pains.
Anyone with chronic lower back pain, will find this very slim book, informative and beneficial.For such a small book, it contains a large amount of benefit.I've had back issues for over 20 years. This book was recommended by my current physio (and I've had many, over the years).
