Ollie's Tonsils: Hospital Adventures

great for a kid who can't read but is having surgery
I used this to prep my son for his upcoming tonsil surgery. He's in preschool, and can follow the pictures and story well, but I made up my own words to better fit what he would be experiencing. I also left out the part where the little boy in the story was worried/ nervous/ scared. No one needs that idea, let alone a child who's never been in the hospital before.Overall, very useful book for getting my kiddos comfortable with his impending experience and the nurses all commented how relaxed he was an how he was telling them about what was going to happen next!

Excellent book
I bought this book to prepare my 7 year old for her tonsil/adenoidectomy. She was understandably very scared and apprehensive initially and I wasn’t sure how to turn that around. This book along with some role play with toys made a huge difference. My daughter really enjoyed the story and was able to ask lots of questions. It made everything seem more familiar on the day and was very true to her experience. I wasn’t sure before I got the book how much to tell my daughter and i think the book leads the conversation and lets them understand at a really nice level. I started reading it with her a week before her surgery so it wasn’t too long hanging over her and she had enough time to process what was happening and still enjoyed the book. She took the book into school before her op and read it with the class they enjoyed it too. I would highly recommended this book. As a paediatric nurse and mum I think it’s fab.

Great book, very helpful
This book was very helpful for my little one before her tonsillectomy, she is three, I will warn that it does use British lingo so when reading I just changed the words to the American equivalent.
