A Historical Fiction Masterpiece!
“The Prophet's Reward: A Novel of Puritan New England (My Father's Kingdom - Book 3)” by James W. George was captivating from the first page to the last! Although I haven’t read the prior two books, I was able to understand the third book in the trilogy due to the author’s notes at the beginning of the novel. Providing a brief summary of the prior two books in the author’s notes was genius on George’s part! Due to the summary I was able to easily read and transition into the series without feeling lost or that I was lacking any critical information. I would highly recommended this book to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and a solid, intriguing storyline! George has a phenomenal writing style and his ability to create powerful, detailed descriptions was absolutely marvelous. My favorite thing about this novel was watching Linto evolve throughout. At the beginning of the novel you could feel Linto’s pain, suffering, and heartache of losing his wife and two children. By the end Linto had evolved into a leader, warrior, and an inspiration to those around him. This novel made me open my eyes that slavery can come in many shapes and forms. Although one may be taken care of with proper clothing, nourishment, and shelter, it doesn’t mean they aren’t being mistreated in other aspects. After reading the last novel of the trilogy, I plan on starting at book one and reading the full trilogy in order to appreciate every detail George has thoughtfully placed into each novel!

Historical Fiction
I enjoyed the the historical background, and the trouble the heroes are put into. I liked Linto's growth as a character. I enjoyed his realization that the French were as troublesome as the English, that all people can be good, and all can be bad. The ending is a bit of a deus ex machina.

Poignant and captivating
The Prophet’s Reward by James W. George is slow in the beginning but it soon picks up to tell the horrific plight of those who dared to rebel against the English Colonists. History and fiction blend in a perfect manner to highlight the relations between the English colonists of New England and the native Indians and tyrannical attitude of the Puritans. The story focuses on Linto, who had lost everything due to the war – his freedom, his dignity, his beautiful wife, his family and his leader – Metacomet who led the Wampanoag and their allies in the rebellion. This book also exposes the hypocrisy of religion, which provides fuel to all strife.Such stories remain hidden in the obscure annals of history but need to be told and read so that humanity remembers the sacrifices of innocent people. The way a young girl, Rebekkah is accused in the court of law of being a witch and the judge takes delight in the concocted tale of outrageous lies is shocking. James has brilliantly woven the stories of illogical beliefs of the day with senseless wars, political and religious intrigues.Linto’s character has been drawn with bold strokes; his determination despite the atrocities heaped on him is exemplary, his body has endured untold suffering, nightmares have plagued his mind but his spirit remains alive even after 15 years of slavery as, he has never lost hope. Poignant and captivating, this book records history in a superb manner.

Quality Historical Fiction
James W. George continues his tales of the earliest New England settlers, set literally decades before the Revolutionary War. George’s writing style emphasizes the humanity of his characters, and even though this is the third novel in a trilogy, it works as a standalone read. The novel is frank in portraying aspects of slavery while also documenting obscure wars (and their human toil) that have been largely lost to time. The Salem Witch Trials are touched upon, but outside of this, the story is covering historical facts you’ve likely never heard a thing about. George’s author notes are upfront in detailing where he’s deviated from historical fact, while also providing his justifications and plenty of context for the story. If you’re interested in obscure areas of history, or simply wish to read an engaging novel, this is worth your time.

A gripping and heart-wrenching story!
James George’s The Prophet Reward: A Novel of Puritan New England is book three in this compelling historical series 15 yrs after King Philip’s War. We continue our journey alongside Linto who is a young leader among the Wampanoag tribe. Linto has been captured and sold off into slavery on the island of Bermuda. The reader also follows Israel Brewster who was a minister who has now found new faith and has returned to Middleborough to live a happy life with his family. Political turmoil ensues over New England as the French rage towards them.James George has done it again! I was captivated from the start of this book to the very last page. Even though this is a historical novel, the author does a fantastic job keeping readers engaged with the historical accuracy and action. The author has expertly captivated the historical aspects of people and events portrayed in his novel. I enjoyed watching each character grow as the story progressed. Linto and Israel have faced many challenges and have had to make tough decisions but that’s what makes it easy to relate and connect with them. There were times where this book was tough to read especially reading about slavery and what Linto experienced. The author provides a list of characters letting the reader know if they are historical or fictional, as well as providing the reader with a brief summary of books one and two. I thought this to be extremely helpful especially for those who have not read the first two books and this allows the author to dive right into the action. The Prophet Reward: A Novel of Puritan New England is a gripping and heart-wrenching story that will have you entranced from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book to all!
