LED Light Strip, RGBIC, 16.4ft, Multicolor, KL420L5

I love the Kasa/TP Link brand. I had this light strip for years before part of it died out and I was happy to replace it because it’s been so great. They’re easy to use in the app, easy to install and set up. They work great with Alexa. I love the range of options for brightness and color.

Love this! Use it as under cabinet lighting.

These strips are so easy to install and come with a partner app that helps connect multiple devices into one group. I've purchased these strips multiple times to adorn different spaces in my home. My favorite use is pinning them to the back of my TV to create a glowing ambiance. There are even preset features and ways to "paint" the strip colors of your choice. They're barely noticeable when placed correctly. Takes a little patience, but it's well worth the effort. And I've never had one break or burn out!

I really like the Kasa product family. The iPhone app is easy to use and you have many options and features for grouping various products. This is a quality product, but slightly more expensive than competitors. The two places where this specific product falls down is that 1) you cannot get true white light, and 2) it is limited to the length you buy, or shorter if you trim the light strip. You CANNOT extend the line. Kasa does not have the hardware for it and they do not support if you attempt to extend it yourself. I did not try it after chatting with one of their customer support reps. I will say that their customer service IS really good. I ended up using two of these for one room and with the app I was able to gang them together for control (power, brightness, color, and effects). That way I don't have to change settings for two separate parts. The power supply is a small brick and the controller is fairly small and connects to your wifi network in order to use the app. The set up is pretty straight forward: plug in the controller and light strip, connect to the controller's wifi network with your phone, and using the Kasa app, choose your wifi network (you may need to enter your password), and it does the rest. The controller will most likely need a firmware update after you get it hooked up to your network. This took about 5-10 minutes total. I HIGHLY recommend getting some kind of mounting channel with diffusion (see photos). While installing the self-adhesive light strip, the coating on top of the strip is quite sticky so routing it through a corner piece took a little finessing.

The Kasa Smart LED Light Strip, Has been a great addition to my home setup. I’m using these under my mantle and inside my bar shelves, and they’ve worked exactly as expected. Installation was easy, and connecting them to the app took just a few minutes. The Kasa app works very well — the lights connect reliably every time and respond quickly to changes. The lighting looks clean and even, and it really adds to the overall look and feel of the spaces. Being able to adjust colors and brightness makes it easy to set the right mood, whether it’s subtle accent lighting or something more vibrant. Overall, these have been reliable, easy to use, and visually appealing. If you’re already using Kasa products or want a dependable smart light strip that just works, this is an easy recommendation.

I have a couple Kasa color changing bulbs, and 2 other Govee light strips that are two years old. I bought a new Govee at the same time to compare with this. I was quite surprised by how much brighter this strip is compared to all the Govee ones. The density of LEDs may be responsible as they are spaced every 3/4" which is about twice frequently. There are perhaps a bit fewer customization options with Kasa, but the rainbow, flicker, raindrops, and ocean effects are better than any of the Govee presets and motion/fading is smoother. The Kasa presets also allow you to customize colors starting from the presets which is a cool feature. Worth the extra money over the bargain brand. Update: After owning this a while, I will warn you that creating color combinations that don't involve cycling through pink takes a lot of effort. The Kasa color wheel, for some reason, has a giant swath of pink that you nearly always have to go through. For example, if you want to set a fafe from purple to blue to orange, it cannot be done without "mandatory" cycling thru pink. Some folks might appreciate that, but it's my least favorite aspect of this.

Update: after just under 2 years, all my LED strips have started going offline every month or two, all at the same time, and require a complete reinstall which takes a good half hour. Super annoying. I don't know if there was a firmware or app update that destabilized everything. All my bulbs and switches have worked flawlessly so I know it's not a problem with my network. Also, two of my LED strips no longer respond properly to scheduling on the app, i.e. they turn on randomly and don't turn off when they should. Reinstall doesn't fix the problem. I loved these lights but don't know that I'd buy them again after all this. Original review: I recently built myself a house and have 7 of these light strips installed in various places, mostly as uplighting. I'm generally really happy with them but had a frustrating time with installation. I'll break this into installation and functionality / app interface. Install: For a normal use case, installation really couldn't be easier. The app walks you through step by step and has never failed me. But I had unusual circumstances, and these Kasa lights weren't well designed for going off-script. I have a 12V transformer in my utility room that feeds power to all my LED strips, allowing me to have them all on one switch, controllable by anyone who doesn't have my phone. I found that if I accidentally reversed the polarity of the wires when wiring power to the controller modules, the modules burned out instantly. This is an absolutely trivial thing to protect against on a circuit board, costing mere pennies in additional diodes/hardware. Thumbs down for cheaping out on this. The LED strips also failed where I needed to solder in an extension between the controller and strip (because the strip was located more than a few feet away from the power supply). This strip now works on solid colors but flickers when switching colors, so I can't run effects on it. Again, this won't affect most users but if your use case requires cutting and extending any part of the wiring, don't expect these to perform properly. App control: incredibly responsive. Most of the time lights turn on/off instantly. I also have a bunch of Kasa bulbs, switches, and smart plugs, and they all work perfectly. Coming from a 1st generation Hue system (absolutely terrible reliability), Kasa leaves little to be desired. Here's what I wish they would change: 1. All my lights are scheduled to turn on some number of minutes after sunset, which I love. But the app only allows you to turn them on/off up to 59 minutes before/after sunset/sunrise. Why not add an hours wheel so you can have them turn off, say, 4 hours after sunset? 2. The claim of 16 million colors is a joke. Not that these 16-bit RGB LEDs aren't capable of it, but the app interface limits the color options profoundly. With a 2" color wheel on the app and a 3/4"-wide index finger, I'd be surprised if I could select more than 100 different colors. Until Kasa adds a 0-255 RGB slider interface, their "16 million" claim is more than a little disingenuous.

Get this 420 model NOT the 400 series. Better in every way including wifi stability, quality and durability. Love this light strip

La luz está muy buena, el que puedas tener múltiples puntos de color en una sola tira es un plus comparadas con otras. Lo único que le falta es que tengan un punto de memoria para recordar el último estado (on/off) para casos dónde se va la luz por corte de energía. Siempre se encienden al regresar la electricidad... Solo les falta eso y tendrían un 110

I love them You can control the colours of each 3 LED lights in the strip. For example, you can select Red colour for the 1st 3 dots of the led and green for the 2nd three dots of the led and blue for the 3rd three dots of the led, and so on all the way dawn to the end of the strip. Also they have so many colours to chose from. I love them Note: you can not joint 2 sets of the strips together, I thing there is a Diode in the end of the strip, blocking the voltage from travailing beyond that point.

The adhesive is just as expected from such strips (Not good) but the upsetting part is that it says it Works with Smartthing and while it does not all functions are carried forward like lighting model and scenes or automation.

Be aware of the PU coating you will have to scrape off carefully if you need to trim and reconnect to make a 90 degree turn for example. Works seamlessly with the Kasa app like all Kasa products the set up is quick with no issues.
