THE IMDADKHANI BAJ

For people who have some basic training of the Sitar but do not find time to join a regular class how does one learn new compositions and ragas? It often becomes a tortuous task to try to find interesting compositions from YouTube and then try to play the same on the Sitar.Imdadkhani Baaj is for all such people. In the first part the book has some general information on the Imdadkhani baaj history and style.The the main value of the book is the second part where it has large number of compositions (Sthaee, Manjha and Antara) of different ragas, both in Vilambit Mashidkhani and Drut Rejakhani. More importantly, the author plays each composition, which is available through a QR code (Given in the book) on Youtube. The videos are extremely well made and the handwork can be clearly followed in each video. The notation in the book is clear and the right hand stroke is also mentioned along with the notes in the book.This is a must have book for anyone playing the Sitar. The only thing that I miss are the taans. It would have been nice if the Mashidkhani and Rejakhani taans were given at least for few raagas.I would look forward for a part 2 of this book with more compositions/raagas.
