Soooo helpful & useful!!! Tips for fitting it in any locker...
Looking back on my own experiences with a locker in middle school, I remember having a giant pile of loose papers, books, my backpack, coat and snow-covered boots piled in the base of my locker (probably in that order too).My 10-year old son started middle school last week, and got his own full-sized locker. I wanted to find him something to make his locker experience better than mine. It kind of surprises me that they haven't come up with more clever ideas for lockers in the past 20-some years...That said, this hanging locker organizer is fantastic. The three shelves give him room for his notebooks, folders, books, and lots of supplies in the pockets on the left-hand side. It's thin enough that there's still room for a jacket or backpack to the left of it, however, come winter he may have to jam his backpack onto the top shelf to make room for his thick winter coat. Width-wise it's about half the width of an average locker, if that makes sense. It looks very sharp and the thick canvas and metal hangers that hold it in place are sturdy. When we first put it in his locker, I couldn't get it to fit right. The organizer has metal hangers on top, which you can slide over an upper locker shelf. But my son's locker has a coat hook coming out of the bottom center of that top shelf, and because of the orientation of the hooks, the organizer was squished too far over to the right side, making it unstable and partially squishing the organizer's top shelf. There was no way to turn the coat hook or remove it; believe me, I tried! Then I realized I could hang the metal hangers from the middle coat hook and the far right-hand coat hook. This worked GREAT except now the organizer was hanging down several inches farther, which meant there was little room underneath the organizer.THEN I realized there are small openings down each side of the organizer. I slid the metal hangers out of their top-most position, and slid them into other openings farther down. It's a tight fit, but the hangers DO slide through the other holes. The middle coat hook and the right-hand coat hook aren't even with each other height-wise, but this doesn't matter because you can put one hanger through a higher hole than the other one. (Because of this design feature, if you just had one coat hook in the way, you could use one hanger on the coat hook and the other over the top shelf and adjust the hangers accordingly.) With a bit of effort I got the organizer perfectly straight, unmoving, and adjusted it so there's enough room underneath the organizer for boots or other larger items. With adjusting the location of the metal hangers, now there were several extra inches of fabric on each side above the hangers, but we just folded them over. If it's bothering you, a couple medium-sized binder clips* will hold the excess fabric in place against the organizer sides and out of your way.If you have a smaller-than-average height locker, there's also the option of snapping up the whole bottom shelf, making it a 2- instead of 3-shelf organizer. Just note you could possibly shorten the top shelf enough that you'd be able to have 3 shelves, only the top one would be a lot shorter in height than the bottom two.One other note, if the organize keeps slipping off the hangers (I think one reviewer mentioned this) try clipping small binder clips** just under the hangers to keep the fabric even more snug against the hangers. The organizer I got actually had two little binder clips holding the fabric tight against the hangers. This one was so tight it definitely didn't need them, but maybe they were added because the fabric slips off of some people's hangers.*Medium-sized binder clips (example): Acco 1.25 Inch Medium Binder Clips, Black, 12 Pack (A7072050B) **Small-sized binder clips (example): ACCO Small Binder Clips, 12 Clips per Box, 3/4 Inch, 1 Box, Black (72020) UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2012Two years and two grades later, and my son is still using this locker organizer. Just like in years past, getting it set up takes a minute or two, but after that, he's set for another year of clutter-free, organized bliss (probably not what he'd call it, but it's true!) My 7th grade son loves this for his small locker. Keeps items off locker bottom and provides much more storage and with multiple shelves he can keep his subjects separated

2020 UPDATE: Going Stong After SEVEN YEARS!!!
2014: I'm not sure where I heard about these, but I'm so glad I did. This locker ladder is ESSENTIAL. I actually feel bad when I see kids without these. My son's locker is tall and skinny. Without this he'd have to pile everything together in stack. The LockerWorks brand is very sturdy and I know that he'll be able to use this for the next couple of years. I think it's a worthwhile investment - even if it only lasted one year. So, it's a pleasant bonus that it will bring him right through middle school.2017: I wrote the above for 6th grade. My son is now going into high school and we're still able to use the SAME locker organizer. It's in great shape. A little worn but nothing terrible. Well worth the money.2020-2021: He's a SENIOR and we're still using this thing! He doesn't use it in his locker anymore because seniors are too cool for that. Instead, he hung it in his closet and uses it to store odd and ends, belts etc. What a great product!! He's beaten this thing up, shoved heavy books in it, scrunched it smaller to accommodate baseball, football and other smelly sports gear - and honestly, it still looks great. Wear is minimal. I am seriously impressed. He's actually planning on bringing it to college for closet storage since space is so limited. Kudos LockerWorks!

Great Value
My kids are very happy with their locker shelves. I have triplet daughters that have transitioned to middle school and are using school lockers for the first time. One of their friends got metal shelves that fit in the bottom of the locker. We decided to go with this product because at their school the middle school kids use their school lockers to also store their athletic equipment. Since my girls are both swimmers and soccer players, they needed a system where they could store their cleats/shinguards and their swim backpack. This locker system allows them to store their books and their equipment in an easy manner with the cleats on one shelf and the backpack on the locker floor. Still leaves plenty of room to hang a coat when winter comes. The real proof was when one of my daughters gave me a hug after coming home the first day with the locker shelves in place and said "Thank you very much" and then told me how her friends asked about the shelves and and said they were going to ask their parents to get them the same. Three thumbs up from my triplets!

Money well spent
This is a MUST in our middle school. The lockers are tall and narrow and without something to organize your stuff, the whole thing is wasted space because everything ends up in a pile on the floor every time you open the door. Adjustable shelves are hard to set up and other organizers are limited by the dimensions of the skinny locker and placement of the hooks and shelf. My 12 year old took this organizer to school and hung it up by himself in a few seconds. This organizer was actually recommended by the school at parent night and we were given a coupon code to use at the LockerWorks website. Fortunately I found this one was even cheaper without a coupon on Amazon. Now the school year is over and my son brought it home. It still looks new and ready for another school year!
