For as long as I can remember, I have had issues with water getting into my right ear and not being able to get it out. I thought it was because of a small perforation in my eardrum, but I was told a few years ago that is not the case. But water goes in my ear and doesn't come out and I end up getting an ear infection and have problems with hearing until the water can be removed. But I also love diving when I get the chance, so I didn't want to be deterred. So, I purchased this mask and as a backup, I also bought a set of vented earplugs. While I was on my trip, we went diving as planned and I used this mask. It fit very well and it kept my ears dry when I was down 45 ft in the ocean. I never had to clear water from the earcups. The only issue I had was with water getting into my mask proper but that was due the fact that I have a beard. With some carmex applies to the mustache, the problem was resolved. I look forward to diving again soon, getting certified and keeping my ears dry when I do it! Went diving for a week and it took 3 months to get rid of the resulting painful infection - 3 rounds of increasingly strong antibiotics, the last with prednisone. Wax or silicone works fine in the pool, but I thought I would have to give up diving to depth. And then I found this marvelous mask! So far it works superbly! I have to make sure to have a tight seal around my damaged ear (a bit of a challenge with long hair but keeping it braided in the back is working thus far) and one cannot easily remove the mask and replace it at depth, but I seldom had to do that anyway. I simply inhale and pull the base of the mask away a bit and exhale through my nose. No problem. I have a ruptured eardrum. I put a wax plug in that ear, then use the Pro Ear mask. I did 24 dives since the eardrum rupture, as deep as 90 feet. No problems. Obviously, you need to be a bit cautious with this condition, but it worked for me. I have short hair around the ears so removing the mask and putting it back on is not difficult if you take your time. The only difference is when you clear water from the mask, you also have to use your thumbs to push against the ear cups or the air escapes from the ear cups instead of the mask. Your middle fingers will be pushing against the top of the mask to ensure water is being pushed out from the bottom of the mask. As a warning, the silicone will yellow long before you stop using the mask. But wait--what's this? It actually works! The ear "flaps" look like something Captain Nemo might invent, but they actually fit. They seal. If you take the care to adjust the placement, you can--and I do--go chugging along dry-eared indefinitely. So far I've backed up the earflap with a silicon plug in the bad ear, but nothing before, with or without the plug, lasted even a calm-water snorkling trip. This one works, and works, and works. And more--with the snorkle added, I've found that I can actually clear the mask by blowing in it, a rarity for me. Does it work? Well, I plan to buy a spare before I go on the next snorkling trip, just in case.
