Amazing Resource for Alternative Therapies
Where I live with diabetes and have had complications, a friend highly recommended this book. Prescription for Drug Alternatives I'd bet simple read. The book is broken down into various diseases. Within each chapter, the chapters are further broken down into common medications and alternatives. These sections are broken into the benefits, side effects, etc our each medication and alternatives. The only critique is they don't cover all alternatives, which may be impossible due to the vast number of them available. For example, as I write the Diabetics Bible: Complete Book of Diabetes, I've encountered hundreds of things that are beneficial to people with diabetes. To list them all in any book would create thousands of pages. Thus, this book is an amazing resource.

Thorough Reference - should be in every household.. and every doctor's office.
My husband and I are *very* experienced when it comes to alternatives allowing us to regain empowerment over both of our life-threatening conditions. We found this book in a very extensive consumer alternative health section of our local library. After a quick browse we realized this book was a much needed reference in our home library. Actually, this big is *very* informative not just supplements and herbals, but also prescription drugs and their interactions. This book should be in every medical doctor's office who has even a single patient who takes any prescriptions OR supplements. Yes, it is that good of a reference. This book has already proven to be invaluable for us. I had been trying to resolve a minor but annoying skin condition that had persisted a few weeks. Following some information I gleaned from this book it is now finally resolved. I've already saved a co-pay plus a prescription that may or may not have resolved my issue.

Exercise Requirements: Lift Monster Book Once Daily
While this volume appears to contain useful information, the size and format will preclude regular use. Had I known how large the book is, I would never have bought it. It's the size of a phone book (10-3/4" x 8-1/2" x 1-5/16"), with the information unnecessarily s p r e a d out. The pages have a 2-1/4" margin (which could be good if you like to write in notes), and the book weighs 2 pounds! It is so unwieldy and inconvenient to use, that I will probably seldom use it. All of its information could easily have been contained in a much smaller, user-friendly size book. As far as the information inside, it contains a lot of drug information, disease symptoms, and some alternatives. But what's the point of having the information if you have to drag this monster out every time you need to check something? In a more readable, convenient format, I would have given an extra star, since all of this info is readily available online. I much prefer Dr. Atkins' Vita-Nutrient Solution, which is crammed with useful information, mostly about vitamins and minerals (with little information on drugs), but is a normal size and much more portable.

Drug Awareness
So far this book was helpful in looking up the prescriptions I was taking along with my family's prescriptions. It was a little dated...2008..I will look for a more recent book on this subject...More people should get involved with drugs they are taking and either a substitute and/or side effects..

Excellent Reference for people who need to understand their health issues.
This a good reference for anyone that helps people understand the relationships between drugs and more natural supplements that change work better for long term problems like blood pressure if it is not over 140, It points out how proper diet and exercise can take care of many problems.

Reference book
I keep this handy for it has guided my move into naturopathic living and out of drugs that do damage. I had already experienced ill effects frorm several prescription drugs.I have had cancer surgery and hbp. Finally, I was so frightened by being prescribed a drug that can cause terrible side effects, I bought the book, bought the supplements and prayed. The bp is down, I quit the chemo years ago, and I am becoming the patient of a naturopath this month. This book has been a wealth of knowledge.

Another alternative to chemicals!
Balch provides suggestions for natural supplements or food therapies to replace some prescription medications. It is helpful for those who want to stay away from chemicals, or for the person who cannot take prescription (or OTC) drugs. Readers should still do their homework - not every suggestion works for every person. Know your own allergies and conditions well before taking any supplement or medication. For more general reading about disease processes and treatments, try Prescription for Nutritional Healing by Phyllis Balch.

Great reference book for those interested in their health.
I bought this on someone else's recommendation. It's not something I'd use daily but is a great reference book. If you have any interest in your health and want to look at alternatives I'd highly recommend this book. Sadly, my brother-in-law has recently been diagnosed with stomach cancer, the outlook is pretty bleak. There is a section on some alternatives which may help which I've sent my sister (and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something may prove beneficial).
